Hello Laska
keep close to this forum - you'll find a huge amount of strength, support and courage here - I do.
All the best, you can do this :)

Welcome....

It feels scary and it feels impossible... It won't always be easy but it will be immeasurably worth it.

Littlebear 05-03-2015 04:18 AM

You're welcome here Laska. One day at a time is the way to do it. Something I found useful in my first few days after stopping (and after 11/12 weeks sober still using it) was to say at moments throughout each day...' may I remain sober' - or words to that effect. Its just a little reminder of your intention to not drink. Maybe try it as you go through the day? Look forward to hearing how it all goes.

Hi and welcome.

This is defiantly a scary period because so many have a fear of the unknown. I didn’t know what I didn’t know and it takes that hated word TIME to recover but it’s so worth it.

Fixing the problem is so easy, we don’t have the first drink one day/minute at a time in a row.
Didn’t say it’s easy but is so much easier when knowing what to expect by reading and posting here and perhaps attending AA meetings.

BE WELL

Welcome

The thought of not drinking is terrifying but it is only a thought. The reality is sobriety is much less scary because all of the chaos, shame and guilt goes away.

We get our life back and that is an incredible gift

Thank you so much for your comments and encouragement.
It is 15:30 where I am about 2.5 hours away from when I would usually start drinking, will keep everyone posted through out the evening.

I found a sweet glass of cold orang juice and lemonade and not being hungry really helpful - and distraction in the form of mindless tv - I got through 2 boxed sets in the first couple of months! :) You can do this

laska23 05-03-2015 11:10 AM

Thanks Hendrix, I took your advice and have several types of juices and soda on hand. Im one hour in - its a start
