Fell down. Again!

i just really feel so awful. I drank last night and then went gambling. Cannot for the life of me figure all of this out. I never think about gambling when I am sober. Sometimes I feel like I do not know the person I have become. I have been sober since the end of January. Had a slip last week and then boom. After work I bought a six pack and am back to ground zero again. I have been reading SR forthe last few months and I know that this is where I need to be. I just really had to fall on my face to realize I need to be honest and start posting. Any thoughts from you guys will be greatly appreciated. I would like to attend on-line meetings.

I'm glad you posted. I think the main thing is that you learn from this experience so it doesn't have to happen again. It sounds like you had a really good stretch of sober time, so I'm sure you can get back to it. Posting here and reading is a great idea. Do whatever it takes.

Thanks so much. I know I can do this. Sometimes I over analyze everything . When we mess up it is so hard to forgive ourselves and move on. You are right.. I have to take this experience and grow from it.

No point beating yourself up, all we can do is keep moving forward!!

Tweak your plan, change up a few things and go again, you can do this!!

It sounds like you and I are going through the same thing. Again, I've failed. Like you, I quit (again) in January and fell off the wagon about 2 weeks ago and have fallen directly on my face…..having been drinking heavily since. Two days ago, I decided to try again (made the decision on 4/30……….made the date really easy to remember). This time, for me, has been completely different than any time before b/c the withdrawals I'm encountering are utter torture. Every thing you said hit directly home with me. Thanks for sharing.

I know we can do this. I also know about those withdrawals. Scary to say the least. If you can get someone to watch out for you and of course see your doctor, it will greatly help. I am determined and I will be posting a lot more. I think for me it we be developing positive daily habits to replace the old drinking habit. I am so grateful for all the responses on SR. It's great to know we are not alone and people who have been where we are will so honestly share our pain. God bless.

Hi Jart, hang in there and keep trying. You can make this try the one that works. Keep working on your sober plan -- add tools and strategies for when you'll be triggered to pick up that first drink. You got this.

Coming to this site often has sure helped me to stay sober. Even in the middle of the night (I don't sleep well), I come here and there are so many things going on that remind me of how it was when I was drinking, what happened and how it is now. I never wish to forget how hard it was to sober up this last time around. Yes, I also had several slips. Actually some were worst than a slip, more like a train crash. The good news, we are not drinking today -- right ? MM
