First time here
 

Hi,
I've never participated in any online forums before; certainly not for something like this. I've never reached out for support with my drinking before and this is the first time I've admitted to anyone but myself that I have a problem.

I've been drinking a pint of whisky each night, often more. For the past six years, I haven't gone more than five days without being drunk (& that was only b/c I had a nasty case of the flu & couldn't even hold down water).

I have a wife & two young children. I'm terrified they'll have to experience great joys in their life w/o me b/c I'll be dead before they happen.

It's the morning of my third day being sober.

Welcome. I'm on day two, so I'm new here too. Realizing what I could put my family through was one wake-up call among many. :)

Welcome to SR, hedgehog. You have come to the right place for support and good advice. I joined SR 20 months ago, in a situation very similar to yours. I haven't had a drink since the day I joined SR. I owe a lot to the good people here.

Thank you. An online community is new to me, but I appreciate the support already.

It's lunch time now & the weather is beautiful outside. I want to go to a local pizza place we frequent on our lunch hour and get a few beers. I told everyone I had too much work to do & ordered pizza instead. Small victories, I suppose, are still victories.
