Talking Mod be rollin...

Don't worry I'm not going anywhere as far as SR is concerned

My legs continue to give me trouble...I'm down to about 200m now before I start to pain...

so the next step is the dreaded scooter or electric wheelchair.

As long as I can remember, or at least since I became self conscious about my disability, I've feared the wheelchair.

Doctors told me it might happen - Cerebral Palsy is not a progressive condition as such but bodies nerves muscles joints and synapses do seize up or burn out.

But I faced the fear, listened to that inner voice getting hysterical for a little while...then I put it in a box and send it on its way.

I can still walk - I won;t be dependent on the scppter or wheelchair all the time...but it will give me greater autonomy and that (whatever my fears are) is a good thing.

I'm not looking for sympathy - I don't need it
I just wanted to get this out

I almost didn't post at all - I've scuttled a few attempts at this thread when I think about the far more awful things others are facing here ...

but I'm always telling people to post - so I figured I best take my own advice

thanks guys

D

LOL - D.....the song is imprinted in my head now, only the words have changed to Mod be Rollin...LMAO! I know this is no laughing matter, but there are some upsides to the motorized wheelchair. Kids love them, I bet a bunch of young ones try to hitch a ride. You will go from stalling at 200m to outlasting all your friends. You can always bedazzle them! CP is one of those life challenges we face on life's terms. Thank you for setting the example of how alcohol is just not the answer no matter what. Mod be Rollin!

I wish you many good times on wheels and off. I used to know a very fresh dude who had an electric wheelchair with a raccoon tail attached to the back and a loud horn he'd honk at the ladies he admired.

Long as you keep moving. I dodge scooters all day at work and although not pat of job description, fix them. Don't post and drive.

We all need a little help now and then, thank you for sharing. Your logic is solid (no surprise there!) and you will improve your quality of life, sound like a win/win to me.

I'm glad you posted - i actually think it helps us all to see that everyone has their own doubts and fears and obstacles, even the ones who seem to always have it all together

I think you'll be rad I'm your chair! Do you get one of the ones that zooms along real fast? I used to be jealous of my childhood friends mum, she had one and she would chase us around in it - so fun! You'll rock it

Dee

According to FIPFA, powerchair football is the world's fastest growing sport. Something to think about that may make you feel more empowered.
