We are not carrying our weight.

Simple as that.

Those of us that have been through it are not stepping up to help those just coming here. We are getting complacent, comfortable, cozy. We need to remember the early days...and nights...we went through and help the new among us.

I'll try and do more.

ArtFriend 04-27-2015 06:06 PM

We? wait...who?

TroyW 04-27-2015 06:09 PM

What do you mean? Can you give some examples of people who have been neglected?

For the most part, it's up to everyone here to help themselves. There's no magic wand to make things better. Everyone else can only provide support, and I see tons and tons of that all around.

Dee74 04-27-2015 06:10 PM

Hmmm - you're entitled to your opinion but I don't share it.

I try to make statements about myself and not about others...but the way I see it everyone does what they can.

That's the way this place works and always has done.

IMO, the great irony is that threads like these is they tend to detract and distract from the very business of helping others.

All the folks on this sight are at their own turn in the road, and I think that's awesome. I think there is a wealth of helpful, supportive people here.

trachemys 04-27-2015 06:15 PM

Dee, it was just an opinion.

Delete it.

bemyself 04-27-2015 06:22 PM

I'm with Dee on this - after all, Trach, the 'new' pop up in several different forums, not just Newcomers, which itself has so many sections. Also, some of us trying again for recovery and who have been members for some time (including myself in both categories) tend to travel about in and out of different forums and threads - well, I do anyway!

I believe that's one of SR's great strengths, that it's so multi-faceted, a la a 'mansion with many rooms'. People do what they can, on each occasion they can. And we're a collective, really, Trach - no need to feel you have to be 'always on', there are plenty of others (several hundred thousand) to pitch in too. x Vic

I thank everyone for what help and support they can offer. I need all I can get. If they are not in the majority of the populace, so be it.

I will hear and consider everyone!...and Thank them for efforts to reach out to me with help and hope.

Things are getting rough for ole' Dave.

Thank you Trachemys.

Trach, never wish your posts deleted. You're expressing what a lot of us feel from time to time -- fear and frustration that we can't help others recover, and guilt that we (I) maybe don't show the best side of our(my)self on this forum.

We're doing our best to find our way through this thing, and expressing that process, and sharing it with one another in mutual support. You never know -- will it be an expression of strength or weakness or humor or grief that helps someone today? All you can do is keep posting.

((trach))

I (see) a lot of help offered here on site for the suffering ones.

I lost count many, many, many PM's ago of the ones that I have privately contacted. Many of them I'm still in contact today and we share in a friendship. Much added support here goes on behind the scenes.

And to the moderators who have also encouraged me so many times -- thank you.

Just my thoughts from up top the mountain.

I reported it. I'd call it an unwanted post so delete it. The thing is, requesting enough attention to warrant deletion may be too much.

DuhDave 04-27-2015 06:53 PM

Your right at the door step of 5,000 posts !!!

That proves to me that you care for the people like me...still struggling.

I dont think your post will be deleted...It would be like "Deleting" me.

I agree completely with Dee.

We all do what we can to help others and to help ourselves, and I think we do a great job.

trachemys 04-27-2015 07:05 PM

We can do more. More for the new, more for the experienced. There is more we can do.

Della1968 04-27-2015 07:25 PM

I try to be supportive when I can but I don't have much time under my belt so how much can I really offer someone and to be totally honest sometimes it's all I can do to keep myself sober. I at times have to back away because I start to care more for others struggles than I do my own I have to remember I have my own demons to fight. I don't expect anyone to fight them for me nor can I fight theirs.

alphaomega 04-27-2015 07:27 PM

Most recently when I posted a "MAY DAY MAY DAY SOS!!!" Post, I think I got about 17 replies in 20 minutes, and some 40 something total replies. Even days later. I also got PM's.

I felt surrounded with help and love and supported on all sides.

It kept me sober that night. And every night since.

You were one of those people Trach. :)

I'm so damn grateful for this place.

Charlie117926 04-27-2015 07:40 PM

Every time I have posted for help whether its one reply or 20 they have all helped. You have helped me trach's

DuhDave 04-27-2015 07:43 PM

I'am grateful as well...and grateful to everyone here !

No one should feel guilty about not offering more help than they do. I see little else besides a tremendous amount of support here. That's only one reason why I stay.

Some people report that SR saved their lives. Others claim that they could not have gotten sober without SR. And still others have stated that SR changed their lives dramatically and for the better. I don't know of many other services, institutions or programs that can make the same claim.

If you're feeling guilty because you're not providing as much support as you can or would like to, that's your issue. If you're criticizing other people for not providing more support than they do, then I'm left wondering what's behind your opinion.
