Hello Everyone
I am new to this wonderful place. It took me a few days to register after having read through most of the posts on here and its amazing how much I related to a lot of it.
I am now on my 66th day of sobriety. Initially my sobriety started due to sheer fear after I was hospitalized with all but a hopelessly damaged liver.
The liver thankfully is now healed after going on a very strict diet (still am) and therefore the element of fear is gone. I now need to start focussing on other ways to keep my mind off alcohol as some thoughts have started to creep in. AA has been a great help and I intend to keep going as well as coming here as often as I can.

Hi Mario,
Welcome and congratulations on 66 days! I'm glad you're feeling better. It's amazing how the body can heal.
Meetings definitely help me as I like the community. Aside from AA literature have you read any other books on addiction? I've been reading about it and everytime I read something that resonates with me, it kind of adds to my collection of "I don't need a drink" resources.

Hi Jane
Thank you and everyone else for the welcome. Regarding your question, no I have not been doing any related reading as of yet. Perhaps I should and soon.
The whole physical and mental transformation has been incredible so far, the freshness and energy especially, things I barely recall feeling!

Welcome Mario. Glad you are healing. Stick around, this is a great place for support.
Not to downplay how alcohol affects the liver, we are different in how our systems react to certain stimuli. For example, I know 2 people who never smoked a day in their lives who had lung cancer.
Some folks can drink hard for many years and sneak past the major liver damage. Others can drink for just a few years and their liver just gives up.
I guess my point is that we should not gauge the effects of alcohol on ourselves based on the experience of another.
Because that could cause a false sense of security and unreal expectations.

The diet consisted of 14 main food items which help the liver recover, those were given to me by the hospital and after some research they are actually available on most related websites. They are in no order of importance, garlic, olive oil, lemon, walnuts, avocados, broccoli, apples, grapefruit, leafy greens, berries, green tea, carrots, turmeric and dates.
I tried to incorporate as many of them in my daily diet as possible. Plus I completely avoided fried food, junk food, canned food etc and it worked wonders for me.
I would be more than happy to share more details if you or anyone else is interested bearing in mind that what works for some might not work for others so its always advisable to consult a specialist but a healthy diet is always a good thing
