I've Avoided It...

I've avoided being the one to come here and say it. I've avoided the effort to try and string together coherent sentences and have to use spell check as to make sense out of what I'm trying to say. But here I am. I screwed up royally. I ended up with DT's and strapped down to a bed in the ER. I have bruises up my arms from being slammed down into the bed of a flatbed and strapped down. I've lost my job and am putting my house on the market tomorrow.

Anyone else wanna know why drinking is a bad idea?

BernieE 04-14-2015 02:31 PM

I'm so sorry to hear this. What led to your relapse?

Thepatman 04-14-2015 02:31 PM

Really sorry about your struggle. Hope you make this your tipping point to turn things around. Alcohol can take away many things from us, but not our freedom to choose a better life.

Prayers your way

KAD 04-14-2015 02:32 PM

Oh, and lest it be forgotten, I spent 3 extra days in rehab - stall strapped down and sedated - because my liver enzymes were so high.

Insanity indeed...

Here's where the really insane part comes in... I got good news at work. I was told I was doing a great job.

Sasha4 04-14-2015 02:34 PM

I'm sorry.
You should never feel like you have to avoid coming here.
Was the job loss due to this drinking episode?
Was it a long relapse?
Do you know what triggered you to drink?

You sound rock bottom.
You sound like you have been through a terrible ordeal and from what you write you have.
However, from there, you can stop and say no more and move onwards and upwards.

Have you got anyone with you for support?
Can someone be with you?

Please know we are here with you.
I wish you the best xx

BernieE 04-14-2015 02:36 PM

Good news, bad news, In-between news, they're all the same to the AV. First you take a drink, then the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes you. I read that somewhere.

Glad you're back.

Anna 04-14-2015 02:37 PM

I'm really sorry that you're going through this. I hope you have enough faith to believe that you can get things sorted out. Keep coming here and posting and stop drinking for good.

No, none of them are all that long anymore, Takes very little time to royally screw up everything now.

Yes. as stated before....I got good news. Though. in retrospect, I don't know if it was all that good after all . I got to keep a job I already hated. Yay...

No.

GetMeOut I'm sorry you went through that but you are not alone. I was in a similar situation and know how terrifying the DTs are.
It may seem crazy now but in a way you may be lucky to of had them. No way left for me to trick myself into thinking I'm not an alcoholic and gave me what I needed to fight the urges.
Stay strong my friend, you have made it through the worst of it.
Please PM me if you ever want to talk.

You've been to rehab, so you have the recovery tools you need to succeed. Please, start applying them.

Soberwolf 04-14-2015 03:01 PM

If only it were that simple, and if only I had you here to guide me through it.

Sasha4 04-14-2015 03:13 PM

I hate to think of you on your own when you are feeling so low.

There is no judgment here, just concern and care for you.

I can imagine the job situation feels bad. Is there anyway you can explain what happened to your employer so at maybe you can get an okay reference?

I don't want to patronise you after the extreme ordeal that has happened, but time will help these bad feelings fade slightly.

Tomorrow is another day away from what happened.
Next week you may feel more positive.

I think things happen for a reason sometimes.

You can move on from this, I promise.

Hevyn 04-14-2015 03:20 PM

GetMeOut - Please remember you're never alone. I agree - there's no reason to hesitate in telling us what's happening. We're here to hold each other up with understanding and empathy. You can rise above this awful time and stay on track. Better days are coming.

Actually it is that simple. Not easy, but simple.
Honestly, get, it wouldn't matter if a troop of sober people were there to guide you, it's up to you to put in the footwork? Up to you to decide to do whatever is necessary. We can't carry you.
Do you have a plan of action of what you're going to do to stay sober?

Getting sober was the hardest thing I ever did. It required every ounce of energy to fight the obsession for some time. It took me some serious footwork at lookin at myself- finding causes and conditions- and also work on changing me and my attitudes.
Staying sober has been easy and worth every second of fight.
There no hole too deep to come out of.

No.

I'm sorry to hear about all that has happened, GetMeOut.

My relapses aren't long either. They can just be a day..after a sober few months...and i'll mess up and lose so much. Lately, it's like everytime I drank, it would be a disaster.

I'm glad you're here.

Dee74 04-14-2015 03:49 PM

I'm sorry for your struggle but I'm glad you made it back GMO :)

Nows the time to pare things back to basics and focus on survival - you have tools from rehab, and Soberwolf's link is a great one for plans.

You can make this your turning point. Some folks here have started from worse places :)

Hi... I'm so glad you are okay and that you came back here. I was really worried about you.

So what set you off this time to go back to drinking after rehab and all? Similar as many times before, or something new and unexpected?

And what's next, what are you going to try now? It clearly seems something is still not enough. I totally get what you are saying that this is not as simple for you as "just do it man, make a new plan and do it"... What sort of things are available for you? Have you considered maybe some sort of sober house living for a while, or something where you could be more supervised and engaged in longer term than what an AA sponsor and yourself are able to do? I know it would be tricky with the limited opportunities where you live, but your life should be first and foremost for a while: before the job, your kids, your house, everything I think?

So sorry, my friend... please don't go back out now.

Aellyce 04-14-2015 04:55 PM

Just read the thread more carefully, so please ignore my question about the trigger. Something very drastic is clearly needed here, not only around quitting but with the maintenance of your sobriety. Selling a house must be pretty stressful, is there anyone that can help you?
