Worried about my husband

Hello. I'm still sober, day 25. I feel better, the cravings are decreasing, weekends are still very hard. The thing I'm most worried about is that my husband still drinks and is a lot more social than I am. He wants to always go over to the neighbors that have a garage party every weekend. I can look out our window and see him and everyone else the whole time, I know he's not doing anything bad, I just worry that now that I am sober, we'll grown apart. I feel like I just want to "grow up." I don't want to spend weekends like high school parties.

Congratulations on 25 days sober!

Have you talked to your husband about your feelings? It's inevitable that there will be changes in your relationship in early recovery. I think everything changes. Maybe you could suggest doing something together as a couple that doesn't involve alcohol? You could take a course together, go for a walk, play tennis or golf, whatever you think might be fun for you to try.

Joyseek,

Congratulations on Day 25 and counting! That is awesome. For now, be happy that you are "growing up." Life can be just as much fun sober. Having said that it may be a bit difficult to stay sober around those drinking in early sobriety. For now I think it would be wise to stay away from the garage parties. After you feel confident in your choice not to drink, or when occasions come up, go, have fun and drink something nonalcoholic like a coke, OJ. or tomato juice. Most people don't care if you're drinking or not as long as you are having fun and have a drink in your hand. Once you feel it needs to be spoken about, pick a good time and talk to your husband about your feelings. I am lucky that after getting drunk together, my husband did quit drinking also. Best wishes to you!

I really identify with this - I like being a grown up now....love it :)

I like Anna's idea of doing things together on the weekend that don't involve alcohol :)
