Grand National

I can't believe I am sitting here on Grand National day (for those not in the UK biggest horse racing day of the year here) completely sober for the 12th day in a row :)

I remember last year meeting with everyone at the pub at 1pm and staying til closing leaving completely paralytic, with no money and waking up with a horrible hangover as the majority of my friends are doing now.

I am happy to say I am at home, drinking a diet coke and cherry waiting for the races then off to the gym and I couldn't be happier all I need now is either Lord Windermere, Godsmejudge, Gaslineboy or Chance Du Roy and I will be over the moon :)

Congratulations on your sobriety and good luck with the ponies!

Tang 04-11-2015 06:07 AM

Any major event conquered sober is a victory worthy of high praise!

Great job Cohiba!

How quintessentially British of you!

Congrats on your achievement -- and your decision to celebrate the conclusion of the race by hitting the gym. I'm convinced that exercise supports our recovery. More than that, really. I believe it helps our brains -- and our souls -- heal and grow stronger.

I'll be rooting for Lord Windermere, for no reason other than that sounds like the most British of horses. Makes me think of the Ascot scene from "My Fair Lady"! Have fun rockin' it sober!

Good job Cohiba! Enjoy the races today, and fingers crossed you win the big one.....
I think sober bets are much better in the long run......:a122:

I know that I have made some pretty stupid bets after a few drinks!

Cohiba 04-11-2015 07:34 AM

Thanks for all the messages I am really grateful and you are all right it's so much better being sober :)

I would say for everyone to watch there are lots of different sites online showing this it's really something else and yes very British :)

I used to own a Buick Grand National. 1987. It was a beast.

VikingGF 04-11-2015 08:21 AM

I'll be rooting for the Pie!!

Good for you, Cohiba!!

Fluffer 04-11-2015 08:30 AM

Congrats on your enjoying the races sober!

So are you wearing one of those grey suits with the matching top hat? Or is that just Royal Ascot?

I know, clearly I'm an idiot.

PurpleKnight 04-11-2015 08:50 AM

Just watched it myself, great event as always!! :)

Keep pushing through Cohiba!!

Cohiba 04-11-2015 09:02 AM

You, sir, are a true sports fan! Is there any sport you don't like?

Bmac 04-11-2015 09:51 AM

Love to hear success stories on a Saturday morning! :You_Rock_

LBrain 04-11-2015 09:55 AM

well now, your this sobriety date happens to coincide with my birthday.
Glad you are putting in the effort. I hope your plans for the fight include an escape clause.
Enjoy the races. Hope I'm not too late to get my pick in - going with AL CO

Not really, I'm pretty much an all rounder when it comes to Sport!! :)

There's a few types I don't get to see as often due to timezones and TV coverage, the MLS is something I'm trying to see a lot more of this season and MLB is another I only get to see on occasion as it's on quite late, but I still like both!!

Cricket, Snooker, Rugby, Gaelic football are 4 I follow all the time and attend now and again, that aren't as worldwide as other sports, American sports I've always been a follower of since I was younger, many over here don't know much about them, but with a domestic ice hockey league here now and Wembley NFL games, people are getting more into the NHL and NFL than ever before!!

I guess there's probably things you see only at the winter Olympics, like skiing and snow boarding that I never see from one Olympics to another, as it's not really televised, so I couldn't tell you who the top down hill skier in the world is at any given time, but I still enjoy watching those sports come the time!! :)

Cohiba 04-11-2015 10:09 AM

Cheers guys and Lbrain you missed it many clouds won :( was a brilliant race.

MLS? Are you serious? Let's just say you have a far superior product to enjoy in Europe.

MLB is designed to fill every waking hour of your life. they play half the year nearly every day for four hours. I can't imagine sitting through one baseball game sober - boring!

I'm mostly an NFL and NBA guy. Do you guys get basketball over there?
