Day 1......
Day 1......
Hi Everyone.
This is my day 1. I got off work went and bought some groceries including ice cream for cravings. One of my triggers is being hungry. I'm going to keep myself busy going for walks etc this weekend and spend a lot of quality time on S.R. I'm not really an AA fan, but I might try to hit a meeting and I'm going to give church a try. I'm really going to try and step out my comfort zone and try new things. I really need this to work this time.
Thanks for letting me express some things on my mind....
TC

Hi TC - I'm glad you posted.
You're right - keeping busy is key in the early days. For awhile we're obsessed with drinking/not drinking - but it becomes easier as we get used to our new way of living. You sound determined - and we know you can do this. Keep posting - we're with you.

I find anything that keeps my mind focused helps. I am only on day 6, but busy seems to do the trick. Sleeping is sporadic, so I picked up on-line scrabble and trivia. It's amazingly easy to find someone to play with at 4am. We can do this. (Ice cream is my personal favorite, too)
Welcome! I was/am not a huge AA fan. However, I go to 3-4 meetings a week. I get alot out of simply being with other people who have the same goal that I do. I do it for the social aspect rather than the steps or the book.
Stay busy and don't freak out if you happen to have an ocassional craving. It does not mean you are doing anything wrong. Perfectly normal early in recovery. Just don't give in and know that you can do this, one day, one moment at a time.

Hi TC!
Great to hear you are on your way to a better life!
I hope its going well so far, and you are breaking those mental ties. Just do whatever it takes, and whatever works for you.
Im so happy for you!
My day 1 is Monday. Ive been told to keep a couple days responsibility-free - as it will be physically tough.
A nurse will visit daily, and Ive been prescribed valium.
So right now - im stocking up on some great dvds (that ive never before had time to watch)
Life is exciting ... Onward and Upward
We can do this!

Hello Tc ,
A lot of wisdom in those AA rooms judging from the people who come and visit here .
HALT is a useful acronym to remember , meaning are you hungry , angry , lonely or tired .
Keep on

Hey TC,
congrats on your 1st day.
I just finished mine also and it's 4 AM and I can't sleep. Guess I'll just have to ride out the insomnia for a little while before my body begins to feel naturally tired again. One day at a time, *DEEP BREATH*.
I did try and run outside today though but could only go for like 12 mins before the pain of the 12 day bender I just came out of kicked me right in the gut. I lose my appetite when I drink, but get tricked into thinking I want to be one of those people who can enjoy a nice glass of beer followed by some tasty food. I haven't been able to for a long time, and end up scarcely eating anything for days when I'm on my liquid diet.
Went to work after, came back and lifted some weights. Bought some light dumb bells, really helped me last time (17 days sober) to relieve aggression. Having some handy at home help because being lazy to go to the gym can be another trigger too.
I didn't mean to make this long and all about me.
Wishing everyone on TEAM SR a happy sobriety. TC I'm going to an AA meeting next week for sure and will be more than happy to tell you how it went. Keep up the good work.

CherBear,
the first few days are rough from my experience and it's nice that you will have help.
I'm excited to hear the enthusiasm in your voice. You can do this on Monday!!! And I like your DVD game plan.
