Weekender , 10th of april 2015 , lets get through together
Yes sir! My Dad lives in a little town called South China, a little northeast of Augusta. When we visit, we usually make a point to head to Portland for a Sea Dogs game and will visit the Shack. Best lobster rolls I have ever had!

Tang, I was rereading the posts and thought of something. Saying you "hope" for a sober weekend sounds defeatist to me, like drinking just happens and is inevitable. You CAN do this. Not losing hope is a good thing but hope and some work will get you through. If you're having a tough time, keep posting. Even if you aren't,, keep posting. We know you can do it and hope that you will.

All of your photos are amazing! I wish I had views like that nearby!
I have survived the bbq
almost everyone commented on me not drinking alcohol but I laughed it off or changed the subject. It's now 20:45 here and I've just taken myself up to my room, I'm exhausted and was getting too tempted to just walk to the shop and get some beer. I'm kin of hoping you're right and that they'll be so engrossed in what they're doing to even really notice I've disappeared. I'm going to make a cup of tea and watch a film.
Friday night successfully sober!!! Now just for Saturday and Sunday
Well done everyone x

Rose, one of the things said to me in an AA meeting was, "It's not all about you."
I did a double blink at that. Even though I intellectually knew that it wasn't, I didn't really grasp that no one was giving me or what I did a second thought. They were busy thinking about themselves.
Another AA-ism that I like is, "What other people think of me is none of my business." That one is so freeing
Good job on getting through it successfully. Every success gave me more confidence.

Hi, gone 9pm here. I'm mentally exhausted from getting caught up in someone else's office politics (probably 'cos I'm no good at it)
Della/Ruby are you saying that childbirth is even worse than say a paper cut or a stubbed toe? I've had both - without drugs - and I only cried for a bit too
I am starting to think about volunteering HaF, there was something about it on the radio today. Just worried I might let people down. All I do at the moment is sponser a couple of Humbled Penguins at London Zoo (Hank and Grizelda) but it's not like we correspond or anything
Excellent photos, I wish the view from my balcony was as good but it's pretty grim

Morning Class....
Tang?.....you there?. Check in, okay. Regardless.
Friday night.....it was, like, just so 'wow', lol. The dvd player kept jumping so there went the evening's mindless entertainment. (Why do they put trailers on dvd's?)
Read a book instead. More dark chocolate. No booze.....Friday night has always been The Night....it's interestingly weird for it to be suddenly just another peaceful evening.
Now Sat morning. And sitting here, having slept (yes!) without the Saturday hangover is great. The day is mine.
Is this the pink cloud?
Happy Saturday everybody......even you rock picker people. I too have an artful arrangement of smooth coloured rocks on my bathroom shelf. It's all in the selection isn't it.....
Later.

Volunteering was fun today. We packed rice and soy with vitamins into packages then heat sealed them. We made enough packs to feed 20,000 people. They get sent all around the world where ever there is need. I had fun!
Hearing others talk I realize I live outside the norm. The bubble of society. My common experiences are not theirs. That's ok. But its seems stark sometimes. Maybe if I keep putting myself out there I will feel more connected. Instead for now I smile at these people.
Took a salt bath.. every so often I do that. Relaxing with chicken baking. Settle in and read SR for a bit.

I'm home. My son is badgering me to buy an Xbox game and eating corn chips. I think we're on the mend here. I'm hoping I don't come down with it.
Rose, great job! That's terrific that you made it through the BBQ.
Canguy, I'm glad you slept. It does get better and waking up with no sick hangover is priceless. Love dark chocolate!
Saoutchik. That cracked me up. Paper cuts are really up there on the painfully annoying scale but no. I do like your view. Beats mine. It's not mountains or oceans or mesas but each has their own little place in the world.
I think I'm going to have some chocolate myself. If mr. Ruby gets home early enough, I want to go to an AA meeting. Haven't been in a couple of weeks. And I need a mental health break from the kids. I love them but they are driving me crazy.

Go the chocolate Ruby.
I was reading the packet last night.....whole block of the 70% has one third the KJ's of a six pack of beer. Who'd have thought.....?
Weasel: just trying to get my mind around enough packs for 20,000 people....you must have had a long day. A great thing to do tho. It's great that you engage with helping others , including what you do here too.....something I lack. Thinking about your comments re connection.....
Okay.....breakfast, newspapers to keep in touch with what they're doing to us. And coffee, strong with condensed milk. Hot and sweet.

Canguy... Each pack we made feeds 6. We had to make over 3300 packs and we did that in about 4 hours. There were 6 tables of 6 people each and then a bunch packing them and loading them onto a truck. I stayed steady all that time. The tables were low so my back hurts. But we had music going and everyone laughing.
I learned about the organization and how the food gets put together and shipped. Very interesting and something out of sight but so needed.
Ice cream time! Up early for gym. Knee feels great!

Evening guys 11 days sober sitting in on a Friday evening with a cup of tea about to go to bed for work tomorrow and I couldn't be happier knowing I wont wake up tomorrow cringing, broke, in pain, ill, shamed and all the other problems I usually would have on a Saturday morning or even worse the feeling of looking at the clock and its 10am and you are still wasted from the night before planning to carry on through.
Good luck guys

Good job Cohiba! That's great that you will be sober for work.
Weasel, that sounds like a great thing to do. I'm impressed that all that done taken care of in four hours. I've been invited to do something similar through church but have never been able to make it. I'll have to ask when the next one comes up.
Saoutchik, nerf guns. My son has an array of them. I'm glad I wear glasses. It gets tricky around here sometimes. Eventually he runs out of darts and then doesn't pick them up. I do so I have quite a supply. He doesn't directly intend to shoot them at people but he is exuberant.
Is Brain still fishing? What's on the menu?
I bought canned chicken soup, saltine crackers and ginger ale for stomachs this evening although no takers so far. They are whining and fighting so must be improving. My supervisor texted me asking how they were and I felt guilty because they are no longer on deaths door. We always have to go back to the office in the afternoon unless we have something major going on and even then we have to ask permission. Like a teenager getting a hall pass to use the bathroom. I didn't want to go to the office. Ok. There. I said it. My poor mother would have stayed longer if she had to but not be happy about it. She's watched them three days straight and that's a lot when you're 70. Even so, I feel like I'm going to get in trouble for having the nerve to have sick kids and an older mother. If we had enough staff to cover for me, I would have called in sick this morning. But I couldn't. I've called in sick once in almost two years. I think that's pretty darned good. Beats the before time.

Saoutchik - your view looks great to me! I love me some London-Town, it's a great place to just wander and find lots of Ye Olde things. That said, the last time I was there I just found Ye Olde Pubs. In 2011 was my last visit. I arrived at Euston Station after flying in, and my friends hadn't arrived yet. I strolled across the street to get something to eat...and then a year later I see that place on "Sherlock" all the time! I had no idea I was eating in a soon-to-be-famous joint. I'll trade you my balcony for yours...when the weather warms up on your side.
Weasel - very cool to hear about your experience. You mention meeting people who are living much different lives that you. Very interesting lead-in there...what makes your bubble (aside from recovery) different?
Cohiba - well done. Welcome, and you are so right about that "Saturday Morning Feeling". Canguy it sounds like you have it already. Nice work folks!
Off to my old-lady neighbors' place to fix her damn computer again. The old bird has no clue how to use technology, yet she relies heavily on her smartphone and computer to communicate with her friends. Therefore, when something looks wrong she bellows for help. So I'm off to volunteer a bit of my time to help others.
