This sucks

2 days sober and still can't sleep. Eventually got 4 hours last night. I'll get less than that tonight. Another 12 hour day at work tomorrow. I have ulcers on my legs and it's like every nerve ending is on fire. Prayers are welcome if any of you are the praying type.

That said I'm very grateful and thankful for my new sobriety and I will not go back to the drink.

I'm sorry it's so rough on you Josh.

Day 3 was better for sleep for me. I hope you get a good deal more sleep than you're expecting tonight - you must be pretty exhausted.

Stick with it buddy. First days of sobriety are tough but so worth it!

will be praying. Stay strong, it will get better deeper you're in sobriety.

That sounds rough! You will get past this and sleep will improve. My sleep was so completely whacked at the very beginning. I didn't think it would straighten out but it did. I had to force myself out of bed at the same time each morning regardless of the amount I slept. Sleep did become normal.

Keep up the great job...you can do this!

Yeah that lasted about three days for me. I personally take melatonin for a couple of days and that helps. My doctor told me not to be taking it longer than needed.

Your body will re-calibrate with time.

Hi josh, I'm glad you made the decision to quit. My early days I would stay awake all night & then sleep about 14 hours the next night, not by choice either.Goood luck!

Sleep will improve over time but it is very hard the first week or two.

Don't give up--you will feel so so much better as time passes.

Every day may not be better than the last or as great as you expect it to be. Ultimately though you will look back and realize how much better you feel not poisoning yourself constantly for short term relief.

Sorry for your pain. I'll send some prayers for you!

My sleep has never improved however so I can't help you there.

Thank you all for the encouragement and prayer. I did finally get 3 hours of sleep and I've been at work 3 hours and I'm actually feeling pretty good. My legs are killing me, but they're healing. I am NOT going back to the drink. As tired as I may be, it beats being hungover and sweating and shaking.

Boy, you got that right!!!! Dealing with a sleep problem vs. a hangover with the sweats and shakes is a no-brainer to me. Hold on and don't give in. The last thing you want is to start over again. John

Hi josh, really sorry to hear you are in pain. That can't be much fun.

Regarding sleep, I will share my experience when I quit drinking daily. Like many, I used alcohol to help me sleep, but its not really sleep. So I would pop up at 6am battle through the day, get home and start the process all over again. I quit drinking alcohol for awhile, and after about 8 days, I remember falling asleep like I was in coma. I woke up groggy but after a shower and a good cup of coffee I realized I must have slept really good because I felt great.

What I compare it to is like I slept when I was a kid. Its really good, deep, sleep. It brought me back 25 years. I was amazed.

You might want to research a little bit on circadian rhythm. Its kind of interesting. Congrats on what now I believe is 3 days?

One day at a time. I does get better.

As for me, I'm going to bed sober again tonight.
