Hi Kab

I too agree that u should see a doctor about your headaches. It's been going on too long! The head is nothing to mess with. I looked up spirulina. I'm gonna add that to my list of vitamins! KaleGrrl has got it goin on with regards to healthy eating and supplements! Once u add greens, fruits, etc you'll feel a whole lot better. I got my Nutribullet out this spring. I add spinach or kale, cinnamon, honey, berries, chia and flax seeds, coconut or almond milk and a few other things (soon spirulina). I swear I felt better in a couple days. Plus I started my vitamins.

Love this site! Isn't it great that people from all over the world can talk to each other.

Good move to get out of the pub. Take care of your head! I got up at 4 am. Gonna try to go back to sleep. It's 6 am in the midwest - USA.

Keep on keepin on!

Big Love.

Hi there Olivia,

I am going to change my diet and try quit the smokes. I know that the last time I stopped smoking the headaches left me alone. I think I am just more aware of it now as I don't have alcohol to numb everything.

Everything seems a lot more heightened when one is sober.

Spirulina seems to be the new wonder supplement here in SA. Everyone that has a horse is singing its praises. It cant hurt as I was not getting any of that in the first place.

I am going to eat a lot more spinach and vegetables from now on. Anything that will help the body.

Good luck with getting back to sleep.

Keep on keeping on.

Cheers,

ZAB

Howdy!

You seem to do everything on your own but... I hear Alan Carr's "How to Stop Smoking" has helped tons of people. His How to Stop Drinking Book is good and full of common sense advice.

Go Popeye!! (An old cartoon character who ate a lot of spinach!).

Keep on keepin on!

Big Love

Hey, I know of two people who read the book and stopped (one six years now). Works for some people but I was looking for a quick fix and didn't work.

The E cigs are not that known yet but I'm sure as hell that they are better than taylor made smokes.

Yea, but E cigs can't be good for u either! Nothing inhaled (except air) is good for u! My bro-in-law, 55 years old, died of lung cancer last August. He was a heavy smoker. You are strong enough, I can tell, to do it!
My niece went to Africa for her honeymoon for two weeks. They loved it. I'll ask her where they went. She's a marathon runner. I can do ellipticals for an hour but never could run long
distances, don't know why. My skeletal may thank me for it later! Hard on your bones and stuff.

Have a great day (or evening I guess ?)

KOKO!

Big love !

Hi there Olivia,

I tried Alan Carr's smoking book years ago - it did not work for me. I did think about acupuncture - it seems to have a good success rate with some of my colleagues. I don't do anything on my own - I have the whole wealth of wisdom and support right here on SR. What more could I want.

I do know who Popeye is. We do have TV here in SA. And we did have cartoons at one stage. (Just ribbing you)

Keep on keeping on.

Cheers,

Craig

Hey HS,

Not too much info here on E-Cigs either. A lot of research and all I can say is you need to check the ingredients of the liquid and then find out what their homeopathic unit means in an SI unit.

Hi Olivia,

As stated above, it depends on the ingredients in the liquid. If it is reputable then it will be safer than a cigarette.

I am sorry about your BIL. You are right, I will get there and I will quit this blasted habit.

Africa is huge, but I would venture that they went to Kenya on safari or something like that.

Funny that, a lot of people say they could never run long distances, but nine times out of ten - they have the wrong shoe type. You really have to go to a running specialist type shop and let them check you out. But each to their own - Personally, I had swimming and avoid it like the plague.

So we are down to acronyms now hey?

KOKO,

Cheers,

Craig

Good evening all,

I have completed day forty four. Time has flown today, I cannot believe that it is already 21H30 here. Business first.

Physically I am a little tired. The headache did not return after I took something this morning. I have cut my coffee consumption down to two or three cups. I am drinking plenty of water. I also ate very well today. I had a chicken wrap with chips for lunch; soup and toast for dinner. I am taking my vitamins as per the regime mentioned earlier. I have smoked just over twenty cigarettes today. So it is something in this combination. I did not have much fatigue today. So I am hoping that these two symptoms are now loosening their hold on me.

Mentally I am great. I did not have much to think about at work, besides the normal technical issues. I did a lot of thinking and planning for my book. Other than that it was just the usual mental exercises and reading.

Emotionally I am ok. The swings are not so regular now. I am managing to keep my mind occupied which in turn is keeping me more stable.

It is nice and toasty here, well inside anyway. The cats are sprawled all over the place. And life seems to be good.

I just want to clarify something as I came across a forum today which explained the difference between NA beer and zero alcohol beer. NA beer in the states and EU is beer with an alcohol content of <0.5%ABV. Zero alcohol beer is beer with an alcohol content <0.0%ABV. Here in SA NA beer is <0.0%ABV.

So the point is, I used to brew my own beer at home and I miss those craft beers. I got to chatting with some colleagues today (also home brewers) and of course the topic was how to brew a zero alcohol beer at home. I think we have come up with a recipe. We looked at how they would do it commercially and can see where the commercial guys are coming short. So my task is to now brew a beer, that tastes just like a beer, but has zero alcohol. We will get one of the chemists at work to analyse it when it is done to make sure we have a true zero alcohol beer before we taste. I am feeling up to this task and am quite excited.

I know, too much time on my hands to think up things. Well it is downhill from here. The work week is almost over. Almost time for my favourite people - the builders. Hopefully they will get finished this weekend.

Be safe and be strong,

Cheers,

ZAB

I hope you can continue to remain sober while still dabbling in the old ways of brewing.

Sounds slippery to me. I know you didn't ask for input, but that has never stopped me before.

Sweet dreams. It's the middle of the day here.

Ta for the input BB.

I do love the process of brewing. The point though - I don't want to make beer with alcohol. Our NA beers are not that great and the import stuff is horrendously expensive. So if I can get it right at home, then I have satisfied that niche and our group now has a selection again. There are a few of us in our group that are looking for the same thing.

Once again, I do appreciate the input.

Have a good afternoon. I haven't had a dream since I got sober.

Cheers,

ZAB

Good luck with that zero alcohol beer that tastes good. You could make a fortune

l suspect that to an alcoholic like me n/a beer (or n/a anything else for that matter) isn't going to cut it.

I have a friend who's hobby was home brewing. In the end he got so good at it that he started a micro brewery which he sold a couple of years ago to one of the big brewers.

He never abused alcohol either which is the smart thing to do.

Hi Craig

Could you recommend the type of Spirulina to use please. Just got on Amazon and there's so many different makes and such, pill, powder, mix with Chlorella, etc. I'm thinking of going with the powder so I can just put it in my Nutribullet. Too many pills sometimes upsets my stomach. What do you know about Chlorella?

Thanks!

Well, I am all caught up once again. I love a cold NA beer every once in awhile too. I am glad you are doing so well! Take care Zab!

Hey there saoutchick,

There is definitely a marked for it. The craft beer market is starting to take off here in SA. Unfortunately most of the guys are in it for a quick buck. Another think is that people are becoming more conscious about their drinking. I belong to the SA home brewers association and used to brew for a lot of festivals. The funny thing is that the public loves the beer, but it usually has a kick. So if I can brew it with the same taste / body but without the booze - well it is a win.

To give you an idea a NA beer costs about $2.40 per 340ml beer. This is for a Bavaria NA or a Becks NA. To brew something at home like an IPA or a good English bitter would cost me $0.38 per 340ml beer. Unbelievable. A NA beer would be slightly cheaper as you are only using enough fermentable sugar for the aerobic phase, not the anaerobic phase i.e. enough to get the yeast to eat the sugar and remove the sweetness, but not enough to give you alcohol.

I hear you on your mate. We have micro breweries popping up on almost every street corner. The problem though, is most of the guys have no idea what the beer that they are brewing is supposed to taste like. Trying to make a quick buck.

I don't know that I would ever go commercial. I just like the creative process of brewing. And now the challenge to make a good NA beer.

Cheers,

ZAB

Hi Olivia,

I use the spirulina in tablet form. I use the vitaforce brand. I am not sure whether you will get that in the states though. Try and look for something that has the highest concentration spirulina for the money you are going to spend. I only take one tablet a day with the type I use.

I don't know to much about chlorella other than that it is supposed to be a good detox agent. Again - it is one of those things that we cannot get here in SA. Unfortunately we lag everyone else by a few years.

Cheers,

ZAB
