I'm glad you realize that we all have a lot of support here. Just like you I don't always want to read what's written after I write about a transgression, but it's all helpful and offered in good faith.
Bottom line, this is a wonderful place.

Dave, that desperation helped me move off the mark. I wasn't sure what lay ahead, but I knew anything was better than the way I was living.
As scared as I was about sobriety, I was more scared of living in that purgatory any longer.
I saw pain in your post, and I hope that you stay here and realize that we are all in this together.

Dave, in a few days I will have been sober for 4 months. It took me nearly 8 years to reach this point. But it has to start somewhere and dropping the bottle is the only way to begin.
I also wanted to let you know I won't take the drink just for myself, I won't drink because I don't want to let you down. I want you to see by my continued sobriety, it is possible for you to have the same.

The very beginning can be an emotional roller coaster no doubt.
And also, as jaynie mentions, being afraid. I was scared to be sober. How can I handle life without drinking? It's all I've ever known. It turns out, once the mind is cleared up and sobriety 'sets in', it is much easier to deal with life. Life doesn't get any easier, but being able to deal with it certainly does. Attitude is everything. And while drinking, my attitude was...
Let's just say my mind wasn't in the right place.
I want to encourage you to keep at it and keep the faith that your life will improve. It doesn't happen over night. Stay sober and you will experience steady improvement in every aspect of your existence.
