super stressful day, I lost my dog out bush she chased a kangaroo
Was running out bush with the dog. Yesterday was her first time off leash and she didn't run off, so I trusted her again today. Went for what was planned to be a 6 km walk hike run and ended up in a 7.5 km search for my dog!
She spitted a big red kangaroo and chased it into the bush!
Lost to be never found again ever.
(it is a very unforgiving harsh dry desert bush landscape here, if you're lost you're foked! You can die out bush, she could have broken her leg or bitten by a deadly brown snake and die in the middle of nowhere!)
I'm not religious but for in case it works I asked God to give me asign of my dog and please return her to me there was only one hour of daylight left to search!
I saw some offroad motorbike guys stopped them and asked them if they would keep an eye out for my dog knowing she was lost forgood.
My dog was wearing a collar with cell number on it thank god! I was searching west ish the direction she chased the roo The bike guy called me she was on the track 2 km east in opposite direction of where I was searching!
I had practically lost my voice screaming my dog's name.
Stress levels were extremely high!
All Icould think of was having beers to calm me down!
Anyways I got reunited with my dog which was a true miracle!
Anyone that knows the Aussie outback knows it's a 1 in a milion chance.
I am really not exaggerating it truely is like searching for a needle in a haystack!)
She lost skin off both her front paw pads she had bleeding feet and her rear paws pads have cuts, poor baby she's only two years old orso.
Oh and she doesn't come when you call her.
I carried her for at least a mile on my shoulders back to the car (17 kilo dog, 35 pounds ish)
Poor dog
I'm so glad I did not drink
I would have loved to though
Typical that stress and fear and panic attacks result in the desire to drink.

I'm so relieved you found her!! How terrifying!
I love my dog so much. You must have just been frightened out of your mind...
Don't drink the beer. Yes you are very thirsty, but your body needs water! I'm sure you're dehydrated with the heat & worry & running... Think about renewing your body after such a stressful experience. Drink liquids, stretch, cuddle your pup. You are super-high on adrenaline right now, but it will slowly disburse in your body naturally...
I'm really happy that you got her back!

I call her crazy dog
I was in fear for her life. She's been sleeping all evening (3 am now) she's been licking her paws all evening must be painful for her.
Can't believe I carried her on my shoulders in my neck for a mile or more like superwoman strenght 35 pound doggy
Well done for not drinking over it pinky.
You have truly brought the Aussie into the forum with this story. I am imagining many yanks are highly impressed and are signing up for a holiday down under to meet pink g-string and wrestle some crocs with her.
I myself made sure to give my pet koala a hug after reading this and my riding roo a bit of stink-eye for its cousin's shenanigans in leading your pup on a chase.
Heh! Only in Australia hey?

But I wonder if she even got close to that kangaroo?
I used to have a sporting dog. He would chase trains. Well, he did it once and I never let it happen again. He also once jumped into the Intercoastal Waterway in Florida, chasing a bobbing coconut. I was really afraid I'd never see him again.
They are like two year olds. They have to be monitored every second when outdoors.

This is so cool, and you know that if you had given up and drank you probably would not have been able to do that.
That's the good thing about sobriety. Life doesn't always get easier and bad things still happen but we become much better at handling those.
Give that poor baby a big pat and I second LBrain suggestion for obedience classes.

DD, No.
He couldn't have held it even if he did.
I kept telling him not to chase cars, too. "What are you going to do with it when you catch it?"
Totally my fault, and I'm so grateful he never got hurt because I was so free-spirited.
