Posting to distract myself
Hi TeeBee. I think posting for distraction is great. It sounds like you've had a rough go lately.
I wanted to address the au pair issue. If you will be looking for a replacement perhaps it would be a good idea to discuss the situation in your counseling sessions making it clear to your SO that her actions led to the girl leaving, and drawing up some type of plan/job description outlining just exactly what is expected of the au pair. Dos and don't s. It's hard having someone living in your house and it's hard living in someone else's house. To feel like your every move is under a critical microscope is unbearable for most people. If plans were in place or maybe just get daytime help.
Sounds like it is deeper than jealousy if your SO doesn't like family and friends about. My husband was like that. I got to the point that now I invite people over regardless of his preferences, but with advance warning. He can either join us or not. It isn't fair to be held hostage in your own house and if you like it a little livelier, maybe take baby steps to see that happen.
Hang in there
