Does it get easier?

Day 1.

Does it get easier?

I'm 31.

I'm a touring musician with a loving girlfriend and family but when I'm on the road and partying ... It can get ugly.

I'm at the airport and I want to stay clean and sober from cocain and booze. I've tried to do this before and failed every time.

This is my most honest attempt. I talked about it with my manager for the first time this week, so it feels like I've put a dagger in the dirt. I want this

Doors it get easier?

Welcome to SR Humanbean. Yes, it absolutely gets better. The first few days of detox can be rough...make sure you've got some help if you need it, and don't be afraid to see a doctor if things get too bad.

There is an old saying "it will get worse before it gets better". And cleaning up is kind of like that but please don't let it discourage you (its only a matter of a few days) Cocaine and booze is a dead end street. Glad you've recognized the issue and wish you the very best. If you feel you need to seek medical attention, absolutely do it.

alcohol and cocaine is a heart attack waiting to happen. You are doing the right thing and it does get easier. Give time time and heal well!!

I'm not a musician, but I, like many
do love music.

There are many musicians out there
in the world, and we hear many stories
of their lives on the road, their partying,
just wanting to get famous and have
it all. Sex, drugs and rock n'roll.

However, many have out grown that
stage in their lives and either have
quit the music scene, or got help for
their addictions and many have used
their music as a job making money
and helping the world with disasters,
charities and such.

If music is the career you wish to stay
in or pursue then it can be good quality,
healthy and happy work to be in.

Music has been around forever and
the younger generation looks to those
before them from the past to learn from
if they have been in the industry forever.

We need good professional artists,
musicians to lead and guide the
newer artists just coming into that
line of work.

Be a shining example to the newcomers
with your talent, knowledge, wisdom,
experiences and most of all your recovery.

It does get easier

I actually lost my music career because the booze and partying became more important than the music.

Take my advice and put the music back where it belongs.

I'm back to music now, although I'm not a touring musician.

I find I play better and I really appreciate the gift I've been given when I stay sober.
I'm also very grateful for the second chance I have. Music is the thing now, none of the other BS

Look to role models like Eric Clapton or Joe Walsh for inspiration and examples of how to be a very successful musician and stay sober

it definitely gets better, but you have to give it a chance to get better.
it's not instantaneous but results can be seen soon enough,

Life can still throw us curve balls but i'm better able to deal with them and understand what goes on around me sober.

The physical side calms down pretty quick, learning and practising the art of living, rather than just happening at people and situations takes a bit more time and self realisation,i'm working on it

keep on

Hello Humanbean! Great to meet you.

As we often say, if it never got better most of us wouldn't succeed. I felt very strange for the first few weeks, but I learned to love the clear-headed, no regrets feeling. I love Dee's idea of reading about the many sober musicians out there. You can do it Humanbean. Stay with us and keep posting.

Welcome to SR, Humanbean! I'm glad you found us! Yes, it does get easier as time goes on. The first step is to understand it's time to stop. That step took me 25 years. I'm glad you figured it out younger!

Hi Humanbean (love the username by the way!)

Firstly it is early days for me so please don't think me an expert. But I have given up a partying life in past (a few times!) and I know how hard it can be to turn that ship around.

Many of my favourite musicians have produced most of the stuff I like best once they stopped drinking and drug taking. Many report that after a period of adjustment, they enter a phase of creativity and performance levels that they have never previously attained - and it is immensely satisfying.
Sounds like you have all the ingredients of a great life there. If you can just get out of your own way a little you could have a real party - and remember it! :-)

All the best
