That spark of life Yesterday afternoon after the fog burned off, the sun was shining, the birds were singing and everything is blooming, I was sitting on the back porch, drinking tea, watching my dog play in the yard with her toys. For the past week life is going on and its like I am just watching it. Kind of numb, no real emotion. But its better than the anxiety I was experiencing. Then there was this smell. I don't know what it was. A sweet fragrance, something in bloom. A familiar smell... I got so excited it gave me goose bumps. Like when you were a kid on Christmas morning.. That spark of life! I used to have this feeling all the time. I haven't felt this way in years. Then my mind said, "Wouldn't an ice cold beer make this moment perfect!"... That ruined it. Oh well, at least I still have that spark of life! Good morning Day 14 Tina |
14? You, my friend are a badass! Keep on smellin' the blooms--your canholder will eventually find other things to do. |

I absolutely love the smell of Spring. We too sit a many hours in our backyard overlooking all the hours of hard work planting brushes and flowers to enjoy thru out all the Seasons of the yr. The joy of listening to those early bird songs and finally seeing those absolutely gorgeous red Cardinals flying to the feeders hanging under a large tree out back. Soon the butterflies and cute bumble bees will be fluttering around those lovely fragrant blooms of eye catching colors. :) Such peace and serenity that takes me away from lifes caos. Just enjoying the moment, taking it all in and feeling grateful to not be numbing the joys I experience in our backyard with poison. Stay on track as you are building your strong, solid foundation in life and recovery to continue enjoying all the gifts in life offered to us. :) Happy Sober Spring to ya from Baton Rouge. :) |

Congrats on 14 days Tina that is awesome |
HI and congratulations with your sober time. If we let them these sweet moments can come more often as time progresses and we don’t allow alcohol in our system, even if we want to. That’s the great thing about sobriety, it can get better and better and better and……… BE WELL |

I think that setting would be much more perfect with a Perrier or a cup of coffee. I haven't lost any jobs, marriages or other relationships by drinking them, which I do every day, for that matter. Please keep up the good work. I agree that retiring your Miller Lite coozie may be a good idea. |

It's better than watching TV. Our spring her in East Tn is already getting quite pretty. The Bradford Pears and the Dogwoods should be blooming soon, and then the Azaleas. |

Spring is in full gear in Central Texas too. Bluebonnets are blooming, birds chirping. Trees getting green again. |
Well done on 14 days! I too am in the deep south - Ahhhh Choooo!! The rejuvenation is beautiful, but let the allergy Olympics begin! I got sober last June. Birds always nest in the same bush outside of the garage - love to watch them begin to build their nest, lay eggs and see the hatchlings develop. As you posted Mastary, life becomes such a new joy for us :) |
Congrats on 14 days :) I so relate to this! I did not even realize how self-absorbed and cynical I became about the simple wonders of life when I was drinking... For example, I resented spring each year, like "what's up with all that hype"? Of course, it was in stark contrast with my internal world. I had many moments like "that spark of life" in sobriety when something in the environment triggered positive emotions and a "connectedness" feeling with the world that I did not feel for many years. I don't think drinking would enhance them at all, quite the opposite, as it happened for many years. |
14 days?!? You go with your bad self! |
Hi Tina! Love your positive post! I hate that AV that likes to sneak in those stupid comments. I hear it also. "Wouldn't a cold beer make it better" I just try to remember that it would only make it worse in the long run.. I'm just west of Atlanta :) Love the Dogwoods and everything else that is blooming!!!! |

Flynbuy: I love the joys of life. So many things I have missed in the past. Even the little things! Thanks everyone for the replies. I really appreciate it :) Tina |
