First Post I joined this forum back in 2010 and this is the first time I have posted anything. I have been abusing alcohol for decades!! I have tried many times to quit. I never posted because I knew I was going to fail. But for some reason this time is different. I am on Day 12 :) Wish me luck! Tina |
welcome to the posting side, glad you finally came out of the keyboard, Alls I can say is that luck has nothing to do with it. If you really want to succeed you will. |
I'm pleased to meet you Tina; If you've been reading the board that long, you know that a plan is key to success as well as posting before you act on any urge to drink. By the way--I was like you. I wasn't ready quit for years, and then one day I just was, and that was that. 12 days is a fantastic start and you will feel better and better physically and mentally as the days keep adding up. You can do it :) |
Welcome Mystary |
Welcome, Tina! Congratulations on 12 Days, that is aweseome! Like Lbrain says luck is not the key, its the attitude. The only thing different this time is our attitudes and belief in our ability and desire to change. do whatever you can to protect it and keep it. |
Welcome to the posting side of SR, Mystary, and congratulations on twelve sober days. Sharing your challenges and successes may be just the thing you need to make sobriety stick - read, post and respond here on SR; sometimes there is something therapeutic and cathartic about releasing your thoughts. Look forward to seeing you around the boards. |
Congratulations on Day 12! That is fabulous, hang in there. |
12 days is great! Rinse, Repeat. Keep your head up. Don't get complacent. Read everything here. Don't drink. Love yourself. Have a plan for social commitments. When your AV whispers in your ear, don't mistake it for sound reasoning. Welcome! Oh, and don't drink -- No matter what! |
Keep up the great work, Tina! |
Congrats on day 12!! That's huge, keep up the great work!! |
welcome, Tina. getting connected is a great addition to sober days. way to go on 12 days and coming up from lurking :) |
Thanks for all the replies. I guess "Wish me luck" was not the right words to use. I guess I am just looking for support, strength and courage... Sometimes a person can't do it all alone. On the bright side. It is a beautiful day outside. That always makes everything better. Tina |

There is always someone here who cares and truly wants to see you succeed. |
Welcome to posting! Glad you're here and most importantly sober :) I always contend that a person has to be ready and willing to quit. They cannot do it for others (although this is motivator sometimes) but can only reach that point of change by themselves. Unless this point is reached, there is very little hope of quitting in my experience. At least this was true for me........ If you are indeed ready, which it sounds like you are - great! You are not alone and can get sober - it truly is the greatest gift I have ever been given. It made me understand that real change from within is truly possible....... Welcome to freedom!! |
Hi Tina! Great job on 12 days!! |
Welcome Tina! 12 is great. :) |
Glad you are posting! Well done on 12 days. That's great. |
Welcome Tina! I feel that same way! |
Congrats on Day 12! Like you, I drank for decades. You mention having stopped before, but this time is different. If you don't mind me asking, what makes this time different? |
Hi Tina! Well done on 12 days, that's great!! |

Welcome to posting mystary :) great to have you join us :) D |
I'm glad you've started posting! This forum, along with AA helped me to get, and stay, sober after many years of drinking. |
Ornithology: I took a different approach this time on sobriety. Over the last 6 months I took note on exactly how much I drank. I kept a journal. I decided to drink less per month and less on frequency. I was limited to $20 a week. What ever I didn't spend I got to keep for myself. This last month I was down to drinking once a week. I still drank between 6-10 beers on occasion but if I drank more than 8 I was so sick. I guess my tolerance went down. My dad came over a couple of weeks ago and we drank together. I drank 8 beers over 6 hours and the next day I was sick!! That is when I had enough. On the positive side I have saved up over $200 :) Thanks everyone for the great replies! Tina |
Congrats Tina |
