Fighting the urge

...to drink. Everything's a trigger and I find myself thinking of how I can leave the house and come back with alcohol and drink off by myself somewhere. My family knows about my problem and they watch me, which ultimately helps keep me honest, but right now I'm feeling desperate to get away on some pretense. This sucks. I fixed myself a coffee so I could drink something else, anything else, and focus on that instead of my cravings.

Anyway, I lurked non-registered for a time before finally joining and then took my time getting 'round to posting. I think the way i'm feeling today finally pushed me to post. I hope this place helps me.

Maybe trying to escape their vigilance is fueling your urges.
Could you tell them what you're feeling?
Could you reward yourself some other way?
Could you do something else on your own that would feel like it's yours alone?

I am there with you working on giving up alcohol. I have a long history of drinking and it may possibly be my most difficult life challenge. There are so many regrets that have effected people I love, people of my community and myself. I have decided to quit for good because I believe it will help me be the person I want to be and not who alcohol has made me become. Good luck with your struggle.

Stay strong and don't give in. The idea of alcohol being fun for me is a nightmare I will live with forever. I have to start over.

There are a lot of people here who will cheer you up and support you when you need it in the chat room.

Welcome friend.

Thanks, everyone, for the responses. I learned something from each one. I'll be looking up urge surfing, as well as talking to my wife about how I feel being watched all the time.
