Minor rant on internet privacy
Come to think of it, I see a lot of banner ads for rehab facilities pop up on even simple news sites I read. I have Attention Deficit Disorder and also see a lot of ADD clinic ads as well. Nothing is private these days. I learned the hard way to stay off porn sites because then I am bombarded with pop-up ads for every type of sex out there. An exgf of mine that I used to live with became concerned cuz we shared a laptop and there would be ads for not only straight porn but gay, lesbian, and transsexual, you name it. there are plenty of free programs you can download to clear out these cookies and viruses.

I'm with ArtFrriend; I visit about 5 recovery sites 3-4 times a day, and all my recommendations on Amazon reflect my purchases only (not including my searches on there).

Quite a few years ago, I had a PC provided by the company where I worked, along with an apparently super secure firewall system for our network. We did not have any website browsing restriction system though. Well, I managed to download the same virus on it twice, maybe two months apart. It was a pretty nasty one, completely locked the whole computer and IT had to backup the data and erase the whole hard disk to get rid of the bug (luckily it did not harm the data). When I was taking the PC to IT and they saw the same thing the second time, the guy was joking that they were going to protect the company from my private investigations if this was to keep happening...

Adblock is amazing. What's even better is Google Chrome "incognito" mode. Ctrl + shift + n gets you there.
And if you use google chrome and use incognito Google will not track your web browsing. Most of what you guys are talking about is Google.
Lastly, if you're truly concerned, consider duck duck go. It's a search engine that does not track anything. Like nothing.

But seriously it's creepy how much everything you do online is tracked! Most of it is just to market and sell you crap you don't need or want. It gets weirder when you start thinking that government has an interest..... it's all fine and good to think well it doesn't matter because I'm not doing anything wrong so I have nothing to worry about. Unless one day you are in trouble and then all the **** you've said and done online is now open for discussion with the authorities.
Wait a minute... I've said too much. Holy **** I'm on the recovery site!! OMG what have I been talking about!! No no I never had a problem... I was on there for my friend who has a problem... I was just looking for advice for them! I swear Officer it wasn't me!

I'm in a lucky position because I work on mental illnesses. So if my browsing history is full of crap about addiction and whatever other malady and weirdness we can imagine, it's all official and just shows I work diligently

I was thinking "less than savory google searches". lol.
At the end of the day, the government knows what you're doing. It wasn't until I believe a year or so ago, that we all learned the government was tracking every email that went through *****. (they fixed that) We found out about a massive ssl vulnerability that made it totally feasible the government could get to any website/user's information.
Lastly, we learned that Windows pc's had back door entrances the government could use.
This doesn't even scratch the surface. It goes all the way down to local law enforcement. And this is what's been on the news. Can you even imagine what else is going on? I write software for a living, and I can't even fathom the amount of corruption/spying that happens.

Yeah I watched a doc about it and I almost gave up FB! EVERYTHING you do and say online is public. Even emails. So yeah if you are breaking the law or live in a country where you have no freedom of speech or you talk smack about your crappy job or you have strong views about politics or are in a legal issue then you need to be careful about what you say on the internet.
