question
So I've heard that benzos are a bad idea in recovery because theyre basically alcohol in pill form and they will reset progress made. However, my doc (who doesnt believe i have an alcohol problem) prescribed me 0.5 mg ativan for insomnia that I've taken nightly for the past month. Is this preventing my body and mind from making a proper recovery? I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience they could share on this topic??

I take a small dose (.5) of Klonopin for sleep for years.
Does not give me any "alcoholic high" at all or makes me relapse; been sober for a lengthy time.
We can't give medical advice on here, but that's just my experience. Just be honest with your doctor. Voice your concerns, take exactly what he prescribes. I've only heard that benzodiazepines are very difficult to ween off. So, I im comfortable with the small dose & personally this is "just me" from experience I would be reluctant to any increases in dosage. Everyone is different. Just make sure your honest with your dr. & ask for a nonbenzo for sleep if you're concerned.
