1st Day in PHP

Been awhile but I have finally taken the next step and entered a program through my local mental health hospital. I screwed some stuff at work a few weeks ago and all of the anxiety and depression coped with the booze just led me to a near point of insanity and functioning wasn't happening. Went for a screening on Sunday after an I don't know how long bender and amazingly my vitals were "ok." Went to work yesterday and took a medical leave. Hoping to find new work while on this leave but first things first; sobriety and healing for me. 1st day was pretty intense but I was glad I got through it. Oh the irony of an Irishman starting all this on St. Pat's day! Wishing all of you well on your different paths to a sober healthy life. Slainte!

Hopefully, St. Patrick's Day will bring you good luck as you begin your recovery. I'm glad you got the help you needed.

Great job on getting yourself into a program. As others have said on this site, YOU are the most important thing in your sobriety early on. Sorry you felt so poorly, I believe it will get better.

Sounds good, Trapeze. It'll feel so good to be free of it.

Thanks all. I am only 2 days into the program and am very overwhelmed. It's been such a short time (4 days) and trying to stay in check has not been easy. Meds have helped me sleep but more free time on my hands has been tough and one of the issues I have is all that good stuff to divert attention? I did a lot of those things (play an instrument, walk the dog, take a bike ride, etc...) I did those already I just never did them without a drink nearby or alcohol flowing in me. Finally being in the physical presence of others grappling with all this has made it come into a completely new light for me. The range of emotions and feelings is overwhelming.
