Thank You, my SR Family
3 years ago today, my day started with being released from a holding cell. I had been arrested shortly after midnight and charged with a DWI. Six hours later, I walked out of the jail with the desire and determination to never touch a drop of alcohol again, and I haven't. The first thing I did after I got home was to Google AA meetings in my area, I found SR, joined that day and have experienced support I never imagined existed.
I try to look only ahead and most days I succeed in doing that; I guess I am reflecting today on the past 3 yrs as compared to the rest of the yrs of my adult life. What I come away with is a picture of a woman I didn't like very much.
I never thought I would see 3 days without drinking, let alone 3 years. Sobriety has made my life a life I can be proud of. There have been rough times I have been better able to handle, and good times I have been better able to enjoy. I have a better understanding of who I am and can't wait to see who I become as time passes, still a work in progress here lol
And I think that is what this sober journey is all about, continuing to grow as an individual, facing life's challenges with a clear head.
I welcome all the newcomers and congratulate them on the decision to embark on a sober journey. The first steps are the hardest to take and while is seems uphill all the way, it isn't.
So, my SR family and all the lovely people I have encountered along the way, for all the kindness, love and support.
