Best way to find an AA meeting?
How do I find an AA meeting? Seems like that is the only group available. When I try to search it locally it seems like it gets really complicated. Like certain places at certain times but each is for certain situations. I wouldn't think it would be that complicated. It's very discouraging.
I tried a recommended councilor and after two meetings he told me if I couldn't quit for a week then he was wasting my time and wouldn't see me anymore until I either quit or read the AA book.
Just wondering what everyone recommends?

A lot of your concerns should be addressed here Vendetta.
Your First AA Meeting<
It's not meant to discourage you at all - it's about making sure you get the help you need.
I'm sure other AAers will be along to help

It isn't complicated really, any AA meeting will do until you find your feet. Pick one, and check it out and see. Alcoholics Anonymous : Find Local A.A. might be helpful.
I recommend another counselor if you aren't getting anywhere with this one. On the other hand, reading anything while drunk didn't help me much at all.

NS probably means NonSmoking, and A might mean accessible, like for wheelchairs.
Freshstart is right -- you can go to any meeting. Newcomers are always welcomed. If you end up in a meeting that's restricted by mistake (like you're a woman and you go to a men's meeting, or v.v.), they'll be nice to you and probably let you stay, and they'll certainly help you find another meeting.

I think you'll find very few meetings that allow smoking in the meeting, although there is one in my District (out of a hundred or so meetings); it's call the "Fireside" meeting.
No need to be nervous! I'm only 15 days sober and have been to 16 AA meetings thus far. I agree w/ no meeting is the wrong meeting (just don't show up to a womens meeting if you're a man lol). I've really liked the gender specific meetings and the Beginners meeting (will be marked with a single B). If you go and aren't feeling the vibe, try another meeting! They are all unique. The meetings I have attended have also been in 7 different towns. You don't need to stick to one area! Best of luck to you!
