Over 3 Months
Well, it has now been over 3 months that I have been sober. The other day I had an embarrassing situation happen. I work in kind of a call center, where we all sit in open cubicles so when our salesman come in on Fridays, it is a free-for-all. Everyone is everywhere and it can be mayhem. I work at a wine and spirit distributor...would you believe I sell alcohol for a living. Just another cruel but humorous irony in this life of mine. Prior to quitting the drink, I used to run into one of our salesman at my package store of choice. Ran into him almost every Friday. We joke together and I was very friendly with the owner as I saw him so often. I have not been in that package store since January 1st or 2nd I guess it was. Well, that salesman, in front of everyone at work, tries to whisper to me that "Mike(package store owner) has been asking if you are alright as he hasn't seen you in awhile"...ahhhh, I think to myself...I knew it would be coming sooner than later so I lie and say "Tell him that I quit drinking as my New Year's Resolution...trying to lose weight and cut my calories". Boldface lie under the stress of peer pressure, if you will. Salesman responds "Well, Mike says your're hurting his business"....OMG...where do I go with that and what are my co-workers thinking???? Just another day in paradise I think to myself....

Congrats on 3 months. Any of your co-workers who heard the remark likely took it as a funny "throw away" line to get a laugh. Nothing more and nothing less and they've probably forgotten about it already.
