First post 2 years ago!
Hi everyone!
Two years ago today, I found and made my first post here on SR.
I was scared and alone, living in a town that celebrates alcohol abuse just 4 days sober after getting a DUI. I had been actively drinking for over 30 years.
I had tried AA but the meeting times weren't compatible with my work schedule, so I needed to find something else.
I looked up "Alcohol Support" on my computer and found this site.
I read around for a few minutes and decided to give this place a shot, I registered and made my first post introducing myself. Within minutes I had a few responses welcoming me here. I really didn't expect that to happen that quickly. I was impressed and immediately felt a sense of relief.
Those first few weeks, I mostly read posts here, especially during times I would usually be drinking.
At the beginning of April, I found the "Class of March 2013" thread and joined in there, that class is where I found a sense of belonging. We were mostly in the same situation, newly sober and very scared.
As time went by and I became more comfortable with my situation I became more involved with my class, we were not only learning how to not drink, but also learning how to live life again,
Over the past two years, we have anguished over making it to the next day, laughed about things, cried about things, celebrated many milestones, in both our sobriety and in life in general, we've also had to grieve over some things, lost classmate, lost family, lost friends, lost pets, but we all knew we had each other. For some of us who are alone, these people were/are my lifeline to sanity. I've even had the privieldge to have face to face meet ups with few of my classmates.
So if you are new here or have been here and haven't checked into the monthly class threads, please check them out.
Without my "Marchers" I can honestly say I dont think I would still be here today and able to say I now have over two years since my last drink!
Thank you to everyone here and Stay Strong
Ken

Encouraging - to me , BuddinK. Thankyou. I am currently the person you describe...new to the site, 30+ years drinking, mostly in the background just reading, reading, reading the SR boards...and sometimes daring to go out front and say something...
...fab to hear you are still going well on sobriety..l

Two years - how wonderful Ken. I wasn't sure what an online community like this could do for me - but I'm so glad I typed those first few words and posted. It changed my life too. Proud of you.
