I hit a meeting today at the local club. Made some connections, looks like some people are going to help me. I am excited about this!

However, I want this thread to be lighthearted and talk about my obsession with food. I am beginning to be a bit overweight, but I love my food.

Tonight, I am having BBQ'ed ribs and chunky mash potatoes, I have to have my mash potatoes chunky. Turkey gravy and garlic sauce.

Hey Jeremy
I'm sorry to harp on but honestly? I'd much rather hear about this:

I hit a meeting today at the local club. Made some connections, looks like some people are going to help me. I am excited about this!
what do you mean it looks like some people are going to help you?
how? when?

I hit an AA meeting and I met a gentlemen. The meeting was about step 9, I was quiet. I don't know anything about step 9. So I kept my mouth shut. After the meeting a few nice guys talked to me about what I am going to do. I told them about everything, my entire story.

One of the man offered to be my sponsor and wanted to know what my next step is in recovery. I declined his offer, but did commit to more meetings.

I liked getting out and the meeting.

Hey TDG

Its great that you are trying out meetings, a solid step. Why not think about getting a 'temporary' sponsor ? Try out a sponsor for a few weeks and see if it works. If not, then simply call it a day ?

Its a hard commitment, I have trouble with hard commitments. The permanency that AA requires scares the hell out of me.

Yesterday you said you were working on inpatient or outpatient. Attending an AA meeting is a good thing, but did you make any inroads on the rehab options? You have postponed it many, many times and the result has always been the same.

Problems with commitments were also some of my reasons to continue drinking far beyond the time when I realized it's being a serious problem. Then I just decided to do it, to try being as committed as I could squeeze out of me and see what happens. I'm still in awe with the result. I had a similar pattern of development with relationships when I was young, which totally changed my perception of "who I am" in that area. We tend to think that these things are unchangeable when we are entranced in our maladaptive thinking and behaviors. But in reality, all is much more flexible than we might think. What it takes is exactly the commitment and doing things in the beginning in spite of the initial pain. Without self-imposed distraction.

The permanency that AA requires scares the hell out of me.

the ONLY requirement is the DESIRE to stop drinking.

as the saying goes - if you don't STAND for something, you'll FALL for anything. this is life and friggin' death Jeremy, now is the time for true action and commitment, mashed potatoes have no bearing at this time. your cavalier attitude is gonna see you back in places you don't wanna go.
you went from researching IN or OUT patient - claiming that you know you SAID that many times before but you mean it THIS TIME - to talking about one AA meeting and how you like your 'tatoes.......

Yes, I love potatoes too Jeremy! Have been eating too much this winter.
Do you do any exercises? a good exercise plan can make you feel really good, and perhaps help you in your recovery.

Great job on AA..there is this great quote that I hear from time to time...
"Where the attention goes the energy flows" It works well for sobriety.

Cooking...I love cooking...I love eating!.. Cooking for me is a good barometer for where I am at psychologically.
Good and interesting meals means I am doing well : )

I have contacted the rehab facility and haven't received a reply back. Why just one facility, simple that is where I was referred to by the state, DWSS CPS for short. I am banging on their door and not answering.

Because I have a credibility issue, if anyone wants further confirmation I will give it privately, but not an in open forum.

Sober and hanging out tonight. I love me some fattening food, its the best.
