5 days

i managed to stay sober for 5 days & nights last week! i bought myself a bunch of 1000 piece puzzles (although im not actually a jigsaw type of person, it really kept me occupied and the time flew by-i even found myself looking forward to it) i was really worried about the weekend as the shows me and my partner usually watch had been accumulating and i missed spending time with my partner (i send him upstairs when im not drinking-he is perfectly happy playing his computer games up there). anyway, i decided to drink on friday and saturday night which turned out to be pretty gross. i haven't had any alcohol tonight and am not planning to for the week-hopefully by the weekend the thought alone will sicken me and i wont drink then either.
i cant believe i managed 5 days! i have never managed that long.
i am not saying 'im trying to moderate my drinking' or anything like that. i drank on the weekend and, as i said, it wasn't great so i hopefully won't be doing it again.
i'm wondering if anyone else can't not drink when with a particular person and how do you combat the feeling? i can't avoid him-we live together etc...
also, i have a strange question for you guys. once i got to about 3 days of no beer my brain started 'clenching'....i can't describe it properly-it was like a spasm, during which my vision would go for a second or two and i would feel nauseous and as though i may keel over. this keeps happening every now and then and its a horrible feeling. thats the only side effect so far but can anyone tell me what it might be?? thank you

I'd see your Dr about the 'brain clenching'...it sounds like something you need to look into.

As for your friend - have you considered moving out?
I had to make a lot of changes in my life to safeguard my recovery.

You did 5 days so you can do this! Getting checked out might be a good idea. Could be nothing, better to have piece of mind. Could be something related to withdrawal. Good luck!

Sorry for some reason it sounded to me like he was a roommate or something.

Many members here have spouses who drink, and they stay sober...it's difficult but not impossible

I really think you need some sober support to do that tho, and you need to use it.
