Struggling a little bit today
Struggling a little bit today
Hey people, hope everyone is doing good. Just wanted to reach out and share how I'm feeling today.
Feeling pretty low, even though I had a wonderful counselling session earlier at my uni. Don't know why, but since then I've just plummeted. It's cool though, and there's no danger of drinking.
I've been here before, it's just that rawness and vulnerability that I would normally numb with drink. I'm glad I'm feeling it, because I am actually FEELING it, not burying it. I'm glad I'm feeling low because, sober, I have the chance to go through it and learn about it. But it's still a little tough, so I wanted to share it.
I'm so grateful for the counsellor I saw today, for all of you, for the opportunity to grow through adversity, and grateful to be alive.
Sending prayers and love to all struggling out there.
Thanks

Hi, Jack; glad you came here to talk about it.
Sobriety does involve 'getting real', something we have buried with our drinking. That does involve 'feeling' those lows that life naturally sends our way but it also involves feeling really happy, really grateful, really proud, really sympathetic, really connected, really alive.
Do something nice for Jack today, even if it is something as simple as patting yourself on the back and telling yourself "well done".

Thanks Soberleigh, I'm going round to my friend's house to laugh and vent.
Feel better just for posting, and it's amazing how much expressing gratitude can make you feel better. Day by day I'm learning to accept the low swings, and just let 'em be. I hope you're doing good today

I have found in my sobriety journey that sometimes those feelings just come out of the blue and smack me upside the head You have a positive attitude about the whole thing! That is wonderful that you understand that there are ups as well as downs in life and it is what we do with both that matter.
