Water retention?
So, I've recently stopped drinking and I have literally gained 8lbs over night! My scales are fine so no prob there. I feel so heavy. Is it typical to retain water as soon as you stop drinking or is ther something else going on? It's depressing me. I feel so sluggish! Anyone else had this?

I'd have to ask someone better clued up on the science of this - but I'd imagine it depends how long and how heavily you've been drinking for? Maybe the shock of suddenly stopping drinking large amounts on a nightly basis caused some rebound with regard to kidney function?
It took about a month for it to happen, but I've seen the opposite effect in myself - my body's retaining water less, hence the puffiness in my face and body has disappeared dramatically since New Years Eve (when I got serious).
I'm just speculating from complete scientific illiteracy on this issue - but 8 pounds of fluid in one night seems to me to be a pretty staggering amount, and I'd advise going to the doctor as soon as is possible - I'd also, seriously, consider going in to A & E if it's after hours wherever you are - can't be too careful with something like this, and could even be risking complications, like heart attack etc if fluids are all out of synch

Your body chemistry goes a little nuts when you stop drinking so it could be any number of things.
But also understand that daily weight fluctuation is normal even in a fully healthy person, maybe not 8lbs but certainly 4lbs a day either way is perfectly normal.
Probably just your body beginning to process everything correctly again, but as always, if it goes on for a long time or you're concerned, see a doc

Yes Lonely we did! Good to hear from you! The thing is, I feel so swollen since stopping, I am swollen. All I can think is that I must have been so dihydrated that my body Has now decided to hang on to everything it can, I don't know? Definitely holding a huge amount of water here.
