Am I loosing it...or what?

This site and these thread's are better than any group "Therapy" sessions I can ever imagine.

There is so much experience and insight into what people offer to others in the depths of their addictions...if we would just ponder and think about what they say, would make a world of difference.

Therapy is very expensive! I cant afford it. But I find a comfort from everyone who posts on these threads and a wisdom that is way beyond what my feeble little mind (as it is now) is capable of.

Funny thing though. I am a very BIG fan of "Star Trek the Next Generation". As silly as it sounds, when I read a lot of these posts I hear the voice, in my mind of course, of Counselor DeAnna Troy if a woman responds. If it is a Man...it is Data. Data is the Android that knows a LOT...about EVERYTHING!
I know this sounds crazy. Hey...maybe I am...but I feel a "Comfort" in it.

It also amaze's me how intellegent and how well versed most people are on this sight. They have a way of communicating their thoughts that is light years ahead of me. They are so well articulated, I find it hard to believe that they are "used to be"...drunks ! They have indeed come a LONG way ! All of these people sound so...intellegent...how did they ever sucomb to the depth's and dispair of alcoholism. How did I ? Good question.

All I know...is I'am glad you're here. You "Used to be drunks" are all I have to help me get out of this hole I'am in. I just need to stop digging !!!

Thank You for being here for me. I just hope to be here for you one day !

DD

I feel the same way about this forum. it got me on my feet and keeps me there. I'm also very grateful that it is populated by such a great bunch of people.

I always think about the phrase -"every junkie is a setting sun". (Neil Young)

Applies to drunks too-I find a lot of addicted people to be talented, articulate and intelligent, sometimes hidden underneath the bull, but usually there.

I have my own theories on that one, but don't wish to start a debate this morning...

Great post, DD

DuhDave, Einstein drank, smoked cigars and cheated on his wife. He's prove that intelligent people sucomb to the flesh. SR is the rock bottom that I soberly stand on, rootin for ya.

I'm always impressd with addicts and alcoholics when they're sober too. I'm often left wondering " what?!! YOU are an alcoholic?! No way!" Especially about people in my Dec class.

Thanks everyone. A word has been following me around all day today. Cant get it out of my mind.

Responsibility.

I must take responsibility for myself and my well being. No one else wants the job.

Thanks again.

I don't post much but, read here all the time. I always find little nuggets of wisdom that help me. I'd still be a blackout drunk without it. I've tried therapy twice and, didn't get much of anything out of it. This place is wonderful. I agree that the wisdom is infinite.

I am slightly enamored with the idea of sounding like Deanna Troy. I actually used to enjoy that show

I like your Star Trek tng analogy as I am a big fan of that show. I'm female but prefer to identify with Data, my favorite character. I like his logic. Probably why I liked Spock in tos.

I think of myself as a cross between Kira Nerys and Jadzia Dax.

What I liked was that she could kick some serious butt and still keep a sense of humor about it.

Dave, I think SR is a fantastic place for support and we have members from all over the world with all kinds of life experiences. Our forums have been blessed with so many caring and wonderful people.

I, too, used to think of alcoholics in a derogatory and stereotypical way and it's definitely not the case.

Just something about redheads just flips my switch ! LOL

Carry on !
