Day 1-Happy to be here
Hi everyone. Today starts day one for me. I have gone a long run of over 4 years before. Family stress sent me over the edge 5 years ago and I have been drinking ever since. Last year I went a month and 3 weeks and that was the longest I've stopped in five years.
I'm a wine drinker and I drank nightly, about a bottle a night. So tired and fed up of it. I want my life back. I just joined the gym to break up my routine during the hours I'm most vulnerable, which is right after work.
I've been reading the boards for a while, and decided to join. I'm grateful this forum exists. Very supportive, as we all understand each other.

Hi EmbraceSobriety, and welcome.
Reading the experiences of others will give you hindsight of cravings etc.
For me I craved ice cream, I was a wine drinker and I think it was lack of sugar in the wine which steered me to ice cream.

Nice to meet you!
I stumbled upon this site by sheer luck, and words can't express the help and support its provided me.
Congratulations on climbing back in the ring to put down alcohol.

Hi EmbraceSobriety! I could have written your post myself. Ex-bottle of wine (sometimes more) a night drinker here too. I used to work out regularly until the wine got the best of me about 8 years ago when I was going through some difficult times, including a divorce. I had over 100 days sober last year in my last attempt to quit and relapsed. I decided last month to try quitting once again, and I decided that I needed to start doing things that I used to enjoy, which included going to the gym. It has really helped and gives me something to do during the time I would normally be drinking.

In addition to it being an addiction, its also a habit. I needed to replace the habit with something else.
