Help me!

Okay guys, I'm making plans to buy vodka today. I'm going to tell my husband I need eggs for lemon curd, then I'm going to buy vodka at the store. I'm getting very excited and antsy, heart beating fast. I really REALLY want to do it right now. Help!

No, Briar. Absolutely do not do that. Please don't leave the house.

Talk to your husband. Call the friend that has helped you.

Tell your husband to read the message you just wrote. Or just tell him. He will suspect it anyway, just be honest.

I would first tell your husband that you don't want to go out after all and why.
Your inner addict is not playing fair with you, so don't play fair with it.

Shut it down.

The fact is, if you drink today you'll have to consider those things that you don't want to do, like inpatient rehab.

Use that, Briar.

Don't do it. Think forward to how you will feel waking up tomorrow, guilty, hungover, depressed, helpless.

Now think how you will feel when you don't. Victorious.

Don't leave the house.

Brair, you are running you not your AV...tell that AV to shoot of. Let it know that you are in charge of you and that you will not be drinking today and you are really happy about that.....
....and every time that AV pipes up again shut it down with the fact that you are in charge of you and will not be drinking today and to get lost...

Oh, and eat something now, something really filling....it can help a lot.

Don't do it! You will regret it tomorrow! It's so not worth it.

And your husband will know this time.

And this feeling of excitement you have right now will be replaced with shame, and sadness.

Don't do it Briar! You'll feel nothing but shame and guilt in the morning. Please, stay home!

Don't do it. Afterward you'll be glad with your decision.

You are doing the right thing. Talk it out. I agree with telling your husband. It takes the secrecy out of the equation which is for me would be necessary to drink.

Okay, I just drank almost an entire bottle of sparkling cider. I realized I felt more triggered in the kitchen, so I turned off the stove, grabbed the cider, and left. I feel okay in the living room. The sugar crash is going to be rough, but way better than a month in rehab.

Thank you guys for giving me the leg up to think my way out of that one, that was close!

Good job, Briar! I know how hard it can be to turn the ship around once you've got your mind already working toward the liquor store. Well done!
