triggers
what to do with them? My temper spiked, anxiety also , and the feeling of being bored and overwhelmed all at the same time just happened. First time in 7 days that the AV said "see this is why you drank" I will not drink but trying to work through the trigger. I'm posting, reading, praying, and breathing. I'll be close to SR today
what are you doing to fill the "bored" time with?
For me (and I may get slagged here) sometimes I need to do something that didn't focus on the NOT drinking. I had to immerse myself in a new hobby, something that needed my full attention rather than trying to NOT give the drinking attention...if that makes any sense.
But the more time I get under my belt, it does get easier to ride out those anxious periods. The first few weeks were trying though.
Hang in there. It gets better.

Hi Alynn, I'm glad you came here to post. I had a hard time with the anxiety and temper when I was newly quit and understand. You will get through this. I did a ton of things to distract myself. I washed dishes by hand. Laundry. Sweeping. I've also found jigsaw puzzles or crossword puzzles to be helpful. They take focus and some physical movement on the hands.
Hang in there!

Thanks guys... I think I'm just exhausted. Started a new job this week which is wonderful but I'm off today and the house is a mess and my 4 yr old wants all of my attention and bouncing of the walls. DH is busy so no down time.... just frustrated.
Hey Alynn,
l'm finding it to be true that if you give cravings some time to pass and just try to stay calm and breathe through them they do go away. I had never properly practised this before now. The feeling of relief that you didn't cave in is immense and it's great knowing that you are building on your sobriety.
Also keeping busy is good advice too!
You can do this!
