Weird question....skin itching?

Ok I know this sounds weird but really soon after stopping drinking I started getting a dry patch on my back that just itched terrible. It's now been over a month but for last few days my whole body's itching!! Driving me nuts. Was waking me up in the night and right now my legs arms back and even my head are itching. Never had this before and maybe it's nothing to do with the drinking but seems really odd that it's only started since giving up. Don't have a rash or anything like that but just this really annoying uncontrolled itching!!!! Just me?? Xx

I don't remember intense itching myself, Jaded Girl, but others here have mentioned it.

I have no idea but it must have something to do with the rebalancing your body is trying to accomplish. I actually itched before I quit!!!! Have you tried taking cooler showers (not cold just turning the temp down a notch); I found that the steamy hot showers that I adore actually dry my skin out especially in the Winter.

Hi JG,
Searching the Internet for "alcoholic itching" or similar is actually how I found this forum! There is a thread talking about it... I had it in the first month. Only lasted a week at most, but drove me crazy!
Oatmeal baths help. There is a packaged product you can buy in drug stores, made for poison ivy...did the trick!

Oh really? Thankyou. I know we can't have medical advice but do you remember what caused it? (I know the first few days can have withdrawal itching and a crawling feeling but this is over a month in so can't be to do with physical withdrawals)...wondering if it may be to do with being a bit dehydrated with all the coffee I'm drinking but just clutching at straws and guessing really xx

I think for me it was some sort of weird detox. I didn't have any problems the first couple of weeks, the itching was the first month or so.. It could be something else entirely though....
It came on suddenly and left just as suddenly!

Does massaging help the itch? Try not to create rawness in your skin.

Nothing helps really except scratching hell outta it tho I am wondering if I should try mindfulness to resist the urge to scratch cz it may be making it worse. Gonna try some aloe cream in a bit and see if that helps xx

Definitely try whatever you can NOT to scratch, that will make it worse. Aloe might help, or calamine lotion. You didn't do anything unusual? Buy any new clothes?

Or use a new soap or laundry detergent. Scented products can drive my skin nuts.

Any new meds or new vitamins or herbs?????

Hmmm I'm wondering...now you've both said that I have been using radox bubble bath lately. This sounds awful but when I was drinking a lot getting in the bath was something that would take away drinking time so I certainly never had a long relaxing bath whereas that's something I've been trying to do lately to relax. Wonder whether that could be it??!! Maybe I'll leave it out for a few days and see if that makes a difference xx

Could be; my skin is usually rather resilient but not to perfumes - drive me crazy - headaches and itching.
