I reached out today
I reached out today
After several relapses it's obvious that I needed to reach out... I was able to attend my recovery class at church. I shamefully admitted that I was on day 3. Most everyone in there has several years.
After class 2 ladies came up and exchanged numbers. Were going to talk several times a night if not every night. I'm really not good at talking about this face to face but I know they are in recovery also so it will be good.
Husband comes with me to class to show support but he is not good at talking.
I'm more determined then ever to get off this roller coaster.

Establishing face to face support was key for me too.
Though it was not easy. My instinct was to try and do it all alone.
Led me back to drinking. I have a sponsor and several sober contacts/friends now.
If it's helping you...stick with it. At the end of the day we are all just trying to say sober in the moment.
Good Luck.

Hello Alynn,
We can never do this alone. I think all of us who have been sober for a time, did try it alone, and as we say looked for an "easier softer way". Reaching out to others who are recovering alcoholics is always a huge support system. Congratulations on 3 days. You are blessed to have the support, and even though that phone can feel like it weighs 100 pounds sometimes, pick it up and call someone, and share where you are at. If they are recovering for a while, they will totally understand, because we have all been there ourselves. I wish you the best! - BSA

I am five months sober after a relapse and I know I have to get over my fear of bothering people. I have called more people lately and I always feel better afterward. I think it helps them to help newcomers. When I was drinking I hated myself. Now I have to work on not being afraid to reach out. Hope you have a great night.
