Bad dream

I just woke up with the most horrible cravings.

I had a really vivid dream: I was drinking with this random guy. He took the bottle and all my money and disappeared.

I'm baffled. I was not prepared for this. I haven't had cravings in days and now this? I'm not sure what to do. The dream was so real, even the taste and smell of alcohol was so real.

I woke up (20 minutes ago), shaky hands, heart pounding and really wanting a drink.

Please don't let me run up to the liquor store...

Patricia

Allow the craving to pass, it will if you give it time. Get yourself a nice soft drink or a coffee,

You're doing well, keep it up

My dream was that someone stole my car. My purse was in it. Then they stole my car that I had when I was 18. Then they were following me.

My mind is pretty unreliable - even when I'm asleep. It's just full of random nonsense. Most of the random thoughts and dreams I have are not in any way related to my life. Drinking dreams are just dreams, they don't affect my behavior. I just dismiss them as the same gibberish as someone stealing a car I had decades ago.

I also find anxiety-inducing dreams will wake me. If I wake with anxiety I sit on the edge of the bed and take several deep breaths, then do some arm exercises to release tension. It takes about two minutes and I'm back to feeling okay. If you wake with anxiety, it's likely you had stopped breathing for a little bit. Try deep breathing for five or six breaths.

Hi Patricia... dreams can shake you up. I have very vivid dreams too. But they are just that... dreams, not real. You need time to fully wake up and let your dream "fade out". Watch TV or read something to distract yourself from thinking about that dream.

It was just a dream.

Take a hot shower. Wake up and say hello to strong and courageous Patricia.

I had a coffee and read lots of posts here. Thank you so much. I still can't get the image of that bottle out of my mind, but I'm feeling better now.

Yeah dreams can be a bit of a curve ball, alcohol's stealth strategy when we're sleeping!!

Great job on pushing through!!

You could try writing it down. Sometimes getting it down on paper, seeing it there, somehow lets the brain really process it... and allows you to let go of it.

Patricia the important thing is you came right here and let it out.

It was just a dream and it does not have to become your reality.

Stay focused your doing great!

You guys are so right

This was the very first time that I had a drinking dream and it freaked me out.

I usually see the cravings coming, something triggers them. But out of the blue and from a dream? This was a first.

I am feeling better now. I'm still thinking about that silly bottle and the random guy drinking, but I can roll my eyes and smile about it now. (Random Guy must be having anxiety attacks after all that drinking, a horrible night of sleep, and he will wake up all hangover tomorrow... ) Me...well, I plan on enjoying as much as I can of this day.
