Defeated and guilty

I used to be sober for 7 years and decided to drink again. I've spent the last two years watching my life fall apart. Today feeling guilty and remorseful for saying dumb things once again. I know now that I just can't drink and it makes me sad. I don't want be an alcoholic. I know I am though.

Welcome to the family. :) It's not easy to quit drinking but it's so rewarding to live sober. :)

Being an alcoholic is only a problem when I drink. I've accepted that I can't. And I'm not sad about it, which means my recovery is working.

Hi and welcome to SR :) There are many people here who successfully worked through similar situations you are in, with relapses after many years sober. Look around!

I would say, instead of thinking about what you don't want be and wondering whether you are or not, focus on what you do need to be in order to pull your life together. Sober. From that, forward: how to achieve that in your current state. So many possible approaches, you also must be familiar with many if you had stayed sober for 7 years in the past. You may need to tweak that a little though this time around.
Again, many people have done it, you can, too!

None of us wants to be an alcoholic. But, recognizing the problem is essential before you can begin to heal yourself.

Welcome aboard.

I know plenty of people sober 5, 10, 15 years and went back to drinking. A couple never had the chance to turn it around and get sober again. You made it here, great work. Now there is more work to be done...................

Welcome to SR!

Alcoholism, in my 50 cents perspective, is not a death sentence. If we remove the alcohol from the equation we can live a perfectly normal and healthy life.

Now when I think about Cancer, I think my prognosis is pretty good compared.
