day 2 and a half toady.

On day two and half again today. I've finally got off the couch today, but only to walk to the store to get cigarettes (one addiction at a time). The anxiety is slowly getting better. It doesn't help that I already suffer from anxiety along with a list of other things. I guess the reason I picked up the bottle full time two years ago was because I have all the free time in the world to fill being a young retired vet. Any ideas on new hobbies or activities to fill the time?

AA meetings kill time with people solving the same problem.

Welcome to the Forum!!

For me free time was a hurdle too, I really needed to sit down and think about what I now wanted to do with my life, new interests, sometimes rekindling old interests.

Here's a thread on the topic for some ideas!!

Hello there

I know about that, as I am trying to quit smoking and drinking (got a nicotine patch on, clear ones are the only one that work). I got tired of my mouth tasting like an old ashtray, but I sneak a cig on occasion (LOL). Good job so far on the 2.5 days!!! Keep it up, rootin for ya

Welcome. Can't comment on hobbies because that's very personal, but how about starting to exercise if you're not presently doing so. It'll take up time, improve your health, and maybe even hasten you quitting cigarettes.

Hi there! Good job on 2.5 days! I've been filling my time with AA meetings and I am actually really liking it and I feel TONS better when I leave.

Another thought...did you know that cigarettes increase anxiety? Definitely the lesser of 2 evils right now is cigarettes but that might be part of what causes your anxiety. Just a thought. Keep on keeping on!!!

2.5 days sober is great.

Don't let boredom take over. Find something to do that you enjoy - sports, volunteer, a course - anything that works for you.

AA maybe a good thing for me. I'm going to look in to if the VA has any alcohol programs. College and volunteering kind of have a catch 22 with my retirement.

Not sure why - it would be a shame to do nothing day in and out laxd?

welcome laxd - I was dying to find out what a half toady was, imagine my disappointment...

well done on almost 3 days. I went a whole year sober before I gave up nicotine - 10 days so far.

Yeah, I'm wondering why you can do volunteer work. Pass out smiley stickers at wal-mart...

looking forward to hearing more from you...
