Today HAS to be day 1

Got to quit everything. Have to. Today.

My doctor called yesterday. My liver results are high. My white blood cell count and red cell count are also high.

What have I done to myself?

PurpleKnight 02-04-2015 08:02 AM

You can only change the future Jillian, the body is a great healer but it needs to be given the chance to do it's thing.

We all started with a Day 1, and all of us have the same 24hrs today to be Sober, and we all get the same 24hrs tomorrow.

Have you thought of a plan? something for support?

You can do this Jillian!! :)

It's better to know than to not know. Sometimes pain or bad news is a blessing. It can get through to us when, sometimes nothing else does. For instance, I smoked until I was having all of this painful trouble with my lungs. I knew forever that it was bad for me, but now one puff would be pain and like an asthma attack. So now I finally get it, but I really shouldn't speak too soon because I have healed up before to the point where I could smoke again and so I did. In a way now I am kinda hoping that my lungs will always be sensitive now, so that I will never start again. For my neighbor it didn't bother him to smoke until it killed him. I would much rather have my experience than his.

Can your liver heal some now?

Glad you are here Jillian - you are not alone in this, use the support & encouragement that flows freely here

FeelingGreat 02-04-2015 08:04 AM

You can do it Jill. Work out a strategy for handling the cravings and get support. You don't have to dry-knuckle it; see your doctor, make a plan and get help where you can.

I'm glad you've made this decision to begin to take good care of yourself.

Lenina 02-04-2015 08:07 AM

you can do this Jillian! I needed a plan. I needed to sort on sobriety every day.

Day one's are beautiful days. New beginnings. A new course. A new chain of events. And, in a way, it simplifies your life because you know exactly what you are about: not drinking. Simple. Maybe not easy, but simple. You will focus if you have to, and obviously, you have to, if you want to live, so focus you will. There is an old saying that goes something like this:

Nothing focuses the mind like a clear view of the gallows.

-- Samuel Johnson

We all need a mission. Your mission is before you and it is clear. Rise to the critical moment. Make this real. There is no fight worth fighting like the fight for your life.

Let the healing begin, Jillian!!!!!

You can do this.

Stay close to us.

I don't have much of a plan but need to work on one. Right now , it's basically drive straight home first. Then cook dinner. We are painting our bedroom and putting in new carpet so that will help I hope. But it's still REALLY stressful at home having to deal with a meth addict. I also usually listen to meditation music before bed, but I'm thinking if downloading a hypnotic stop drinking audio. Don't know if it'll help but thought it was worth a shot.

PurpleKnight 02-04-2015 08:20 AM

If there is no alcohol in the house, you won't drink!!

Keep busy all evening, dinner and then an early night.

One day at a time Jillian, it's the small battles that all add up as the hours tick away to the end of Day 1, and then onwards to Day 2.

You can do this!! :)

Probably the same as the rest of us...deluded ourselves about the extent of our drinking, let fear and anxiety rule our rational decision making, made promises to quit only to relent to alcohol.

You would think the harm we do to ourselves, when we finally are faced with test results, would be enough to get us to quit. Sometimes it is. Most often it's not. We delude ourselves about that too.

Time to stop worrying about drinking and just quit.

Soberwolf 02-04-2015 09:09 AM

Well done on making a day 1

Ruby2 02-04-2015 09:13 AM

You can do this. It is stressful, but you can do it. My husband is an alcoholic/crack cocaine addict and I stopped drinking a year ago while he was still going. It was rough but I just put it in my head that no matter what, I wouldn't drink.

He's since relapsed again and I still haven't picked up a drink. Stick with SR. Find support in real life. I attend AA and have met some lovely women.

Hang in there. Day one doesn't have to be a chore or punishment. It can be a joy to be free.

Jillian2563 02-04-2015 10:43 AM

Thanks everyone for the support. I sure do need !

By the way, I haven't smoked at all today. I almost said at all yet, but the yet isn't necessary. And I'm sober. A little hungover, but sober.

Lenina 02-04-2015 10:56 AM

Jillian, great! Have you checked out the 24 hours Thread? maybe you could make a committment to check in there every day and have accountability. That's important to me.

You might like to join your Month Class thread too.

Looking forward to getting to know you better!

Love from Lenina
