1st post and regret

Hi am Stewart where to start I've realised I've had a problem for about a year now but I've been drinking since 2009 got fired from my job because I turned up drunk smelling of whiskey I've been able to hide my drinking for a long time but that night I stayed up all night drinking now I look back I think how stupid I was to do it I had a lot going for me a decent job a girl that like me at work but all this was ruined. My drinking problem is on and off binge drinking is the word for it it's lead me down a bad path am currently ill because of my habit infections etc. all I can do now is put my life on a right track and not repeat what I always do push everyone away. Sorry for the long story just wanted to get it told.

Things are only ruined if you continue to drink. Remember what it does to you and choose not to allow it to continue. Make it your priority and don't let anything sway your decision. Best of luck.

Stu, I'm glad to meet you

Be glad at your honesty of that pain and situation you are in. It's hard as hell to admit and come somewhere like here to say it.

You are awesome right now, for that.

First. Do not drink. One week, no drink. Join the January thread of those quitting. Two weeks, don't drink.

I wonder how much this will try your spirit, but, dear one, that is the test; if you must slay the dragon of addiction or if you can put down the bottle and walk away in a lark.

This is a good place with good people who are currenty, or have (wow) faced the dragon head on.

Best wishes, brethren.

Welcome! Sounds like you have been through it really bad with binging. This was my drinking expertise too! Queen of the bindge session! You have done the first thing in admitting you have an issue and can't just take it or leave it, which is great. Now you need to want this more than anything! Sobriety is a great prize, it really is worth the ups and downs as I am learning.

Get a plan and keep posting here. AA is also a great place and not all religious. It's about what you beleive in!

Keep us posted as to your progress and we are all here to support you!

Welcome stu,

I am similar to you been drinking since 2008-2009, i never really touched it before then. Made up for it in my twenties.

almost lost everything - managed a long list of DUIs, criminal charges, and criminal record, due to drink, almost lost my wife and daughter, from just a few years of abuse, i can only become self employed these days. Drinking just makes things worse and it does not get better until abstaining.

Good luck and I wish you the best.

Thank you all for the kind words and support. I'll keep everyone posted on my recovery all I can say is drinking makes things worse. I started Turning to drink as a goto when I was feeling down being depressed about the past will ruin opportunities right in front of you in the present Whitchurch it has but all I can do now is to stop and sort myself out and recovery this time for good. If anyone has Q feel free to ask and again thank you for the awesome welcome.

I also got fired for smelling like booze. I drank too late into the night so I was probably still intoxicated in the morning. That was quite humiliating for me. Then I drank for a week solid home alone because of the shame. It took me so long to realize that I have a lifelong problem that will ruin my life. I would sober up for weeks at a time then off on a bender again where something else terrible would happen. Madness.
