Welcome!

I think your motivation is the most important thing in getting sober. How badly do you want this? If you want it, you can do it. We're here to offer support.

First is safe detox. Depending on how much you drink withdrawal can occur. For this, speak to your doctor.

Then you need a plan, and a support system, like AA for example. There are non 12 steps programs like AVRT you can also look into.

Others will have some great input as well. Glad you found SR!

From your thread about a weeks ago:
I won't drink again not one drop ever.
I won't use any drugs ever.

Here's my plan:
-Hit 6 AA meetings a week for 90 days Starting tomorrow(when I feel comfortable driving)
-Go to SMART recovery 3 to 4 times a month
-Work on SMART recovery Material at home
-Meet with a Therapist 1 time a week for at least 3 months.
-Get rid of Using buddies
-Start developing a new support structure

Read like a good way to go about it.

Most important things to stay sober?
Don't drink even if your arse falls off

For me the mot important thing to stay sober I God.

I drank a few times between then and now. I blacked out at 9am today. I was going to keep going, but I ran out and didn't get any more. God I want to be sober. I don't want to ruin my life with alcohol.

I'm starting therapy next week.

I'm not OK, I'm so scared I won't get better.

Fear is perfectly normal. But you know that you have to walk the path and cross the bridge.

Rooting for you

For me the most important thing ultimately is determination and a huge amount of willpower as well as an over riding 'why' you want to do this.
Support and encouragement and if you go for it, meetings, counselling etc help immensely but personally the most important realisation for me was that regardless of how much counselling etc I had it was only me pouring the drink and putting it to my mouth and I am the only one who can stop that.
Moderation didn't work and the only way I could do it is to abstain completely and realise it's not going to be easy. I used to try and fight the cravings and if I got them give in. Eventually I realised there's no way around it and I was gonna have to feel the bad stuff. Forewarned is forearmed as they say.
It's not an easy ride but keep in mind it will be so worth it. You can do it xx

For me a plan was important, simply sitting at home with a lot of time on my hands and trying not to drink was a disaster waiting to happen, I needed to change up up routines, develop new habits, even as something as simple as going out for a walk when I got home from work, when usually I'd be opening a bottle helped and killed a few hours.

The second thing was support, SR was my main tool, but others use different things, I needed something outside of myself, something to short circuit my own mind when it was trying to convince me to drink, a second opinion on things when I was really feeling it!!

You can do this!!
