Jen, I think hardscrapple is more a Carolinas thing. I was living in Elk River when I first came across it--watched a roommate cooking it up with anticipatory delight and of course offered me some. I chased it down with a beer so we could get to work and have not looked for it since. Liver mush was another of his favorites and it wasn't too bad. People get queazy looks when I make a braunchweiger, PB and vidalia onion sammich and I'm ok with that. Location, Location, Location. I read a book, GULP which was very informative on the alimentary tract and how our prosperity has taken us away from eating "sweet-meats" (or innards) which by default still mucho nutrients necessary for the host animal's survival. I now leave all the innards of a chicken in (sans wax paper when I remember) when crocking a whole chicken and cut them up real good so the kids can't identify. Yes, I'm powerless over sneaking nutrition into my kids' meals

I've just Googled the scrapple... huh, well it actually does seem like something a rural southerner might like. Yeah, I guess location is everything It does look like a slice of spam, just a little darker in color.

Checking in from just outside of Boston! Still coming down and have probably 8-10 on the ground. It is blowing and drifting and a light dry snow so good to clear. Question: snowblow now to get rid of what is there and again later or wait for it to end and do it once?

FNW... with this much wind you will have accomplished nothing if you do it now. Unless you have fun doing it!!

I hope ye all keep safe, well, and warm in the storm.

We are due a mere dusting on this part of the planet tomorrow.

Take care,

Great info on here. Science Dude, here, loves it!

To prevent trashing Waterways, Colorado has cut over to Magnesium Chloride [vs. Sodium Chloride]. It's not a cure-all, but the mix they customize has pros/cons. It turns to this insane glop that coats Windshields and Headlights. You'd think someone threw a Bucket of viscous 'whatever' at you. I've gone to carrying a Spray Bottle of Windshield Washer Fluid, and a bunch of clean Towels. After dark, when your Windshield Wipers don't clear off this Guano, I pull way off the Road and keep cleaning my Windshield.

Stuff also trashes ABS Brake Sensors, and trashed the 4WD Sensor Switch on my SUV Front Axle. Nasty, corrosive stuff. So, ya learn to hit the Car Wash often. My Pedestrian understanding is that Salt is used more where there's no Solar Assist in melting as there is in Colorado. A lot of Grit is used here. Being brown, it soaks up Solar and induces melting quite well.

In other Automotive News, 'Engine Light' stuff is often related to marginal Gasoline and moisture in it. Many of these Lights go out after 3 Start cycles IF you've run through that dodgy Tank of Gas. We had this happen in Utah after a 110 mile stretch on I-70 of nuffin', and I do mean nuffin'. No Services whatsoever. Da Wife's Passat takes Premium. I got it cured, and the Engine Light extinguished, by Vegas. Later, I back-filled what had happened from my Know-It-All Pal. Also, when a Vehicle mis-fires or stutters, the Engine Light comes on. Start - Cycle 3+ times to cure.

Vail Pass Rest Stop as seen below ~2 weeks ago at ~10,500'. Snowmobiler Heaven right there. Close to 4' of Snow w/o Wind. As with the Sidewalk, the Interstate was clear and dry.

Two Truisms about the several 4WD Vehicles I've owned: 1. They don't stop any better. 2. You still get stuck in them. Just farther back Off-Road.

OK, back to watching the breathless 'Weather Bunnies', as they're called in the TV Business. Gorgeous, Sunny, Shirt Sleeve Weather here today. Done Blizzards. Been stranded. Lived to tell about them.

TV ALERT! Power Outage in Nantucket. How about a 5 line Limerick Contest?

Well it's still howling and snowing hard. The news caster still says it will be hours of snow left. It's not even lunch time.

Everyone is signed on at work so I am doing something. We have an international team so just cuz its snowing here means nothing really. But my tasks are all office based at the moment so I can coast.

I did just cut up a scrumptious pineapple!!! Nothing says sunshine like a pineapple!

Great posts by everyone!!

MM, thanks for the tip. I'll see if that works. So long as the engine doesn't seize up and die, I'm OK.

I heard that Nantucket was one of the very few places with the power out. Whole island. That would be rough.

This thread feels really cozy. Even if I'm not holed up at home. Weasel eating pineapple with cats snoozing away. Brain going ballistic over crows. Ah.

The Blizzard of 2015 dumped less than four inches, pretty much a non event here especially taking into consideration all the pre storm hoopla. I'm about to go out to shovel and then get on with my day.

Stay warm and safe.

Weasel, I had a vision of that pineapple. I buy them and no one eats them. Bah!

I like the "pre storm hoopla" comment. Much like the Super Bowl. The game never seems to meet expectations. I will be at my parents for part. Brother being storm chaser and flying into NYC for work on Sunday. Snow will be gone by then.

Something to look forward to. I saved this over the spring on my phone for the sole purpose of winter cheer.

Can't wait for spring! Those are nice, Ruby. Are they yours? I have hanging baskets on my front and side porches. Last year I didn't buy any flowering plants for them, but I'm going to this year. I feel like I can take care of them again

Watching the snow fall sideways, listening to the wind howl. Drinking way to much coffee lol Still have power don't know how much snow we have. I haven't gone outside yet, got the scanner going but everyone seems to be keeping off the roads.

SJ, I can't take credit. I took the pic at the garden supply store. They are gorgeous. I love variegated coleus. I don't do too many flowers and prefer the foliage. I am looking forward to planting. It's time to dream. Didn't Olive1 mention gardeners porn aka seed catalogs?

2WT, sounds like you need to batten down the hatches. We haven't had a good storm like that in a while. Do you have decaf?

I like the looks of the foliage but I don't have much experience with it. My husband and I have plans to do a grass-less yard at our next house. I wonder if those types of plants would do well in a semi shaded place with trees all around?

The noon news just said we have 12.4 inches and the heavy snow will continue until late tonight. We will get the two feet they promised.

Facebook friends are reporting everything closed all around the area. Things Mainers would normally still have open are closing. A big deal.

Oh well!! Looks like afternoon movie time!

Laundry is done.
Cats room extra special clean.
Rest of the house clean.
Rib eye steak marinating for later!!!

This is kinda fun... sorta... well... :|

Is it okay to pretend I'm snowed in? Imagining the snow falling sideways and covering the corners of the windows? That buildup of snow from the wind drifting it up like a ski jump next to the door? Seeing the cars disappearing into mounds of snow and becoming one with the landscape? Can I just pretend?
