7 days and nervous weekend
End of the 7th day sober today, very glad to have made it a week that was a big goal to me
I met a few people in a meeting that have been checking up on me constantly too, one girl in particular has been messaging me lots of advice and support
It's been much easier this time around because of all the support both here and in person, I only just realised that's because I've never really reached out for any before..
So surprised how people actually help if you let them know you need some! Mind boggling!
Anyway, it's Australia Day weekend here and I'm superrr nervous about Monday, it's a public holiday and big party/drinking day. All my friends will be smashed from midday, even the ones that rarely drink.
I'm just going to be spending time with my mum and aunt and going to meetings I think, but still a nervy time for me. Even tomorrow (Sunday) makes me a bit uncomfortable, I'd normally be particularly drunk and reckless this time of year. Thankful to have this place though, and to have plans with my mum (who never drinks)
Thanks for listening

great stuff, immri and Shadow.
planning ahead for something positive to do with the available time instead of stewing in negativity or loose-endedness is really helpful.
maybe your group has special long-weekend meetings/get-togethers?

Just completed first 7 days sober
Over the last four years of my life I have been severely addicted to pain medication. Did not matter what kind and it did not matter what strength if it was in front of my face I would take it... all of it and put it into my body in some way shape or form. I just completed my first detox program and have been out of there for two days so far. I have attended a meeting both nights so far that I have been out of detox. My plan is to complete 90 meetings in 90 days. I also have some questions about finding a home group and a sponsor. What should I look at in a person when choosing him to be my sponsor? Also what do you recommend your home group to be like? I am very new to this and I want to get it rite the first time. I never want to be in the position I was in a week ago today when I had my family sitting in a room as I fought through the tears to tell them I had a severe drug addiction. I have been told numerous times in my short length of recovery that "you aint never got to feel like that again" and I am going to do everything in my willpower to make sure that feeling never EVER returns.
I'll be around here Monday - I know lots of other Aussies will too Immri.
Be with the invites you receive - if you think it's asking to much top be out there amongst drinkers - don't go out...stay home and watch the tennis or something.
There will be more parties when you're a little stronger in your self-belief
