Six Senses of Sobriety
Six Senses of Sobriety
I believe there are six senses of sobriety, that is six human distinct sense separate from each other when we become sober.
1. Sight
When I was drunk, I used find it hard to focus, even the day after my eyesight would be poor. I would often have tears in my eyes from a heavy drinking session.
2. Hearing
Rather listening than hearing. I have found myself listening to other people, hearing what they have to say, rather than trying to be the centre of attention, the life and soul of the party.
3. Smell
I smell much better, now my skin isnt trying to sweat out alcohol and its toxins. The faint smell of urine, which never seems to go away has now left me and I have found my sense of smell has begun to improve especially in the last few days.
4. Taste
I can taste food, when your drinking, all you can really taste is alcohol and strong drinks. I have been drinking copious amount of green teas with fruit extracts in them, and now I can taste individual flavours, my appetite has returned with a vengeance because not only do I have more stomach room to each, but food taste of something again.
5. Touch
The shaking in my hands has stopped, I can trust my hands and feet, arms and legs not to be staggering around all over the place, but to be centred and reliable again.
6. Feelings
Perhaps it is an irony, that I used to drink. Drinking would help me deal with my problems or so it promised, but in factI had lost my confidence, my gut instincts to be able to make snap decisions. It was guesswork really, when I was drunk and thats not really helpful.
So there you have it, the six senses of sobriety.

Yes, very good post, Lancashire.
There is another sense, too, that comes into play before long - the spiritual sense. It makes me feel both special and part of everyone and everything. When drinking, I often felt separate and apart. For me, it's been one of the most beautiful - and totally unexpected - rewards of sobriety
