Day 26 and I feel like I've been hit by a bus.

Good morning everyone,

So pleased that I've gotten to day 26....
But OMG - feel like I've been hit by a bus .... have been feeling fairly rubbish over the weekend. Not sleeping properly, foggy head, lack of energy and woke up this morning with a massive cold sore

Not sure if I've been trying to do to much to quick. Been trying to diet & exercise (taking Chromium supplement to try and help the sugar cravings, I've started back on Sertraline and my health anxiety is through the roof, I'm also taking a shake supplement aswell) ....

I'm having one of those "hate myself for drinking for years" days....

Have just phone the Dr - got an apt for Monday - going to pop back in and have a quick chat with her again.

So sorry for moaning & complaining everyone.

Hope everyone's doing good.

xxxx

Shenzy,

26 days is amazing! You should be feeling proud.

Your body will still be adjusting, it took me a while for the fog to lift. Its a great idea going to see your GP and talking about how you feel really helps!

Dont cut yourself up about your drinking past, be chuffed that your doing something about it.

Shenzy, you are doing awesome, well done on 26 days

I've have some ups and downs, mostly mentally, over last coupla months, I think it takes time for our brains and bodies to heal, but you've booked a doc's app anyway so you can make sure you're ok.

I think some symptoms come and go for a while, do you know about post acute withdrawal symptoms (PAWS) ?

I'm three and a half months sober but from what I've read here it seems to be six months to a year that things really improve.

Hang in there. xx

Thanks everyone for your replies.
It's good to have a moan ... lol.

Was at doc 2 weeks ago and she did loads of blood tests - everything came back clear / normal - but she said I could pop back in anytime to see her. I don't want the docs to think I'm wasting their time (they've had to deal with me & my health anxiety over the years .... I'm sure they get sick of the site of me....lol).

Thanks again.
xx

Hi Shenzy

Hope you are well I can full understand how you feel I was just the same at 26 or so days but slowly your energy levels will get back to normal.

I to had bad anxiety and it affected my sleep in turn made me tired so that would make me feel bad and so on,,, I started to take some daily vitamins like berocca to give me some energy and it worked..

Iam sure you have tried the whole exercise routine but the weather is not the best to get motivated so I have tried swimming don’t know if it would suit you but it has helped me.

I know how you feel with the anxiety so hang in there,,

Take care

You are doing great shenzy, just keep going. 26 days is fantastic. Keep adding on to those days and you will feel better. It took me a couple of months, and it's so worth it.

Great job! You got through some tough holidays.

I know that feeling, but it does improve over time, but you need to be patient to yourself and let time heal your wounds. the process is different for each one of us, so many different variables, that we are all unique. But in general, it will take some time, so be kind to yourself, and let yourself heal, it is worth it.

This is the greatest gift that you can give to yourself. Keep going!

Funny thing, Shenzy, at exactly 26 days I got sick, too, with a horrible cold. I remember as I was sick for New Year's Eve.

It truly takes time for our bodies, minds and emotions to heal. We truly damage ourselves with our alcoholic drinking. In my unprofessional opinion, when we stop drinking and seek sobriety, our bodies slow us down so that it can expend energy in healing.

The six month mark was when I began to feel noticeably better.

Glad you have a doctor's appointment for next Monday.

26 days woot woot... part of why you are not feeling well is your brain.. it is trying to understand what is going on.. rest lots of water or tea or juice... it will help wash your water systems in your body.. in 7 days you will feel different .. ardy..
