Day 4 - drank but stopped

Had horrendous day, up since 12.30am, depression getting worse, never been so tired in my life. Got extremely stressed and had a small bottle of lager. Also texted hubby and asked him to get me wine on the way home. Then opened a bottle of real ale, had a quarter then thought what the hell am I doing? Don't even like it and it's certainly not giving me a 'buzz' or making me feel better. So I tipped the rest down the sink. And texted hubby and told him NOT to get any wine. In total I had 1.95 alcohol units. In the past I would have thought I've blown it so I might as well carry on, and finished the beer then had the whole bottle of wine and possibly opened a second.

So all in all, although I'm back on day one again tomorrow, I feel proud that I stopped myself. And ill be starting that day 1 without a hangover which will be a new experience ;)

Well done on slamming the emergency breaks!

Proud of you, big time

(((Mavis)))). Glad you stopped; your non-alcoholic brain is gaining ground.

Great job stopping Mavis. I'm only counting days becuase I stopped on the first so it's easy and it's nice to see them go up but overall my goal is to change my way of thinking and dealing with life and to not drink. It sounds like you had a good change in attitude stopping before you got wasted. Next time you'll stop before you drink it ...

Get rid of the stuff in your house if you can. For me it gives me time to deal with my AV before I blow it.

Hi and congratulations with thinking about sobriety.

I can identify and thank my HP for delivering sanity to my life. Not a chance in this world would I change it.

BE WELL

Mavis, I'm so glad you're back and working on recovery.

Day one. Some things about day one. This one lady said, "I don't care if this is day one or day 10,000. I am just glad I am sober today." Another guy said, "I treat everyday as if it were day one. It helps to keep me from getting complacent." Day one's are precious things. No matter how you have failed, you can always have another day one. Day one's are like a newborn. They are a new thing in the word and they are fragile. You have to take good care of them, so that there can be a day two. Day one's are way, way better than day zero's. Day one's are good for the spirit. I'll take one any day vs. a day zero.

I'm glad you stopped Mavis. Are you seeing anyone about the depression?

Good going, Mavis! I love that you were able to completely change your thought process like that! Awesome! :)

Nic233 01-17-2015 03:29 PM

You've shown real strength to stop yourself while you're actually drinking.. Well done. I couldn't do that..
Hope your day one flies by for you xx

Thank you all :)

Dee, I'm on antidepressants. Have tried counselling in the past but it didn't help. Have lived with depression since I was 15. Hypnotherapy has helped me in the past but I can't afford it at the moment. Hopefully it will lift again, it's always there just some rough patches where it gets bad again. At the moment I can't face leaving the house or doing anything really. Even simple things like taking a shower seem like a huge task lol.

I understand rthat. I think its helpful to have a short lists of must dos each day and do them. I always felt better afterwards :)
