OK AV creeping in now - mind games

DAY 17.
I caught myself thinking of and excusing drinking tonight in my thoughts today.
The AV was presenting these thoughts as some sort of a sick celebration on
my continued sobriety!?

Ok gang....Im looking for SUPPORT on this one...

Play the tape through. When would it end? Do you know?

I drank last Dec 28th. I wanted to drink for ONE night.

It turned into Dec 28th, 31st, and Jan 2, 3, 4, 5.

3 days of missed work. And i'm ONLY now feeling somewhat normal 8 sober days later.

I heard something in AA the other day which TOTALLY applies here.

If you think you know the QUALITY of your sobriety based on the QUANTITY of days you are sober. Ask another for their opinion and compare it to your own.

That really struck a chord with me.

Take a step back and think clearly about what your AV is trying to sell you.....drink to celebrate your sobriety? Would you break your left arm to celebrate your right arm healing from a break? It's crazy talk....don't listen to it.

Play the tape through.

I always try to remember that one drink/day is never just one drink/day....the obsession comes back in full force and it is HE&& getting back!

No reason is a good one to drink and nothing good will come from it.

Shoot, if nothing else make the AV hurt.

Arresting this disease is the only thing that can treat it. & then by not drinking we grow :)

You can do this.
17 days is AWESOME!!!!
Keep it up!!!

:)

Day 17? good for you! tell the av to crawl back into its poisonous hole. I am on day 4 and hit a low ebb before, but i have got through it by reading mags, tv, and trying not to watch the clock.. write down all the minus things about drinking..then the positive things?? balance them up..and guess what..AV is out the door. Hang in there.:ValD007:

NO WAY. Tell yourself it's not an option. I'm on day 3 here and head is still foggy. Keep moving forward and you will be so glad you did. Remember it wants to kill us! I know you can push through

It's my experience that the AV knows when it's losing the battle and makes a last effort to sway you, but you know that won't work.

Jupiters 01-13-2015 02:45 PM

keep posting here.
don't fall for it's sneaky trickery!! Nothing good will come out of it.

This is GREAT!

AVs pretend to be so smart with their twisted logic. Then we see them for what they really are - desperate losers.

Keep the course and stay strong. Tomorrow morning you can wake up with a clear head and be so thankful for Day 18 instead of rolling out of bed in the nauseated fog of a hang over along with all the guilt, shame and frustration of giving in. Sobriety gets better and better the longer you stick with it. Congratulations on Day 17!

Congrats on 17 days!

Celebrating sobriety with drinking is like celebrating cleaning with dirt.

livingnow 01-13-2015 03:29 PM

^^nice!!

Congrats on what you've accomplished so far. Lots of good advice already. You got this. Play it through.

Thoughts are thoughts livingnow - it's what we do in response that counts :)
Thats the measure of our recovery :)

Stay strong :)
