New here, 1 week down... (just a rant)

Don't mind me, this is kind of a public diary, feel free to comment if you wish, but I won't be offended if you don't.

A friend of my oldest son's father died in a drunk driving accident (he was a passenger), I decided to re-examine my priorities.

As the father of 3 boys 8, 6 and 4, I decided that my lifestyle wasn't conducive to a long life.

So after drinking at least 2 bottles of wine a night for the last 10 years or so I decided to finally listen to everyone who mattered and quit drinking. Not only did I stop drinking, but I started exercising and eating right as well.

After 1 week I can finally say I feel better and last night I finally got a good night's sleep.

I even went to a weekly gathering where I was bombarded with "why aren't you drinking?". When I said that I was "taking a break" the host said "Good for you, we all should be doing that, but this probably isn't the place for you if you're serious about it".

When I left the party the only regret I had was that I ate soooo much candy(I never eat candy, wtf).

End of rant, time to punish my body with day 4 of T25.

Welcome, TBA, tp SR. You will find support, encouragement and understanding here.

Congratulations on your decision to live a sober life. Congratulations, too, on 10 sober days.

Our bodies seem to crave sugar in early sobriety to compensate for the drop in sugar intake we are experiencing by eliminating alcohol from our 'diets'.

As you around the threads, you may notice that ice cream is a common theme.

Glad you found SR.

Welcome, TBA! Today is Day 149 for me, after 25+ years of drinking. I found that reading SR helped tremendously; it was where I learned about AV(addictive voice) and HALT (hunger, anger, loneliness, tired) and realized hunger was my biggest trigger. For the first few weeks I ate, ate, ate and ate more - mostly chocolate, ice cream, frozen yogurt and pastries. I still have a sweet tooth, but I have lost 18 pounds since quitting the alcohol and the late-night pizza and Chinese food deliveries and greasy drive-through breakfasts that went along with the Lite beer and wine. I feel better than I have in many, many years. I am exercising and have energy to spare. I have become very organized. Best of all, I wake refreshed and not dreading what I did the night before.

Best of luck to you!
